Velkommen, commonly referred to as The Windows Welcome Music, or by its file name, title.wma, is a Windows Media Audio file that plays during the out-of-box experience (OOBE) of Windows XP. It is a 101 BPM song, and while it originally ran for two minutes and forty seconds, the full track is over five minutes long.

This track often goes unheard when installing Windows XP, as sound drivers are typically not installed during the OOBE. After installation, the file was found and deemed a «Windows XP Easter Egg,»^[1] and could be located in C:\Windows\System32\oobe\images. The file can no longer be located in newer versions of Windows operating systems.

The track originates from a Version 3.0 of the Internet Explorer Starter Kit» released in 1996 for Windows 95.^[2] An edited version was intended to be included with Windows 98 and was later repurposed as Windows XP’s installation music.^[3]

Composer[]

The original composer was uncredited and remained unidentified for many years. Websites and forums questioning the creator of the music misidentified Brian Eno and Bill Brown as the composers.^[4][5] However, Stan LePard was discovered to be the actual composer of this track when a version of it was discovered on his public SoundCloud account.^[6]
