Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Support Tools (dsforum2wiki)
Unlike previous operating systems, in Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2, the resource kit tools are installed as part of the server role installation. In the past, you had to download the resource kit tools separately.
For example, if you install the Active Directory Domain Services server role, all of the tools needed to support that role are installed on the server (i.e ADSIEdit, ADUC, etc).
Some tools, such as kerbtray, have suitable replacements in the Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2 releases. Kerbtray is no longer part of the tool set, but
klist can be used to complete many of the tasks formerly performed by it. For example, if you need to reset a domain controller’s machine account password and need to remove the Kerberos ticket cache on the machine, you can use the following
klist command at an elevated command prompt (see
KB 325850):
- klist purge

Greetings,
I am new to this forum and Server 2008R2. In previous versions of Server 2000/2003 I was able to download teh Resource Kit and Support tools. I have not been able to find a download source for these tools with regards to Windows Server 2008R2. Can anyone
assist with this? I would greatly appreciate any assistance.Mark Ewoldt

In previous version of Windows server the support tools were a separate download available from Microsoft.
This is not the case in Server 2008. A large majority of the support tools used on a regular basis by Administrators are included under the Add Features link in Server Manager.
Steps:
Launch Server manager, and select Features. Then click Add Features.
Expand Remote Server Administration Tools. Then expand Role Administration Tools. Select the tools you are looking for by selecting the Checkbox next to the desired tool. Once finished, select the Next Button
Review your changes on the following screen, and when satisfied you have the tools you require, Press Install.
Once Install is complete. A restart may be required.
Your Server 2008 Support Tools are now installed.

Hey folks,<BR><BR>We’re building our Server 2008 images and evaluating what we used to have in our base image for Server 2003 to see if it’s required or even wanted in these new builds and these two bad boys came up. All of our server builds have the Windows 2003 Support Tools (SP2 version of course) and the Windows 2003 Resource Kit Tools. Do these exist for 2008?

Greetings,
I am new to this forum and Server 2008R2. In previous versions of Server 2000/2003 I was able to download teh Resource Kit and Support tools. I have not been able to find a download source for these tools with regards to Windows Server 2008R2. Can anyone
assist with this? I would greatly appreciate any assistance.Mark Ewoldt

No resource kit Tools & Support tools are available for 2008R2…everything is on the OS already

Столкнулся с ошибкой установки Support Tools SQL 2008 R2 RUS на Windows 2008 R2 ENG:

Там же нашлось и решение:
Hi guys,
due to these errors I've copied files from folder "1049_RUS_LP\x64\Setup\x64" to the manually created "1033_ENU_LP\x64\Setup" folder.
This helped to install setup support files and to proceed to server installation itself.
After that I also had to copy msi files from "\1049_RUS_LP\x64\Setup" to "1033_ENU_LP\x64\Setup".
Thanks to MS - there is a "Retry" button at this stage :)
The following folders are also should be copied from "1049_RUS_LP\x64\Setup" to "1033_RUS_LP\x64\Setup" prior the setup:
msreportviewer90sp1_langpack
sql_common_core_loc_msi
sql_engine_core_inst_loc_msi
sql_engine_core_shared_loc_msi
sql2008support
This way I've installed russian SQL Server on english Windows Server :)
