Hi,
I am getting a new server, it will have two ‘Intel SSD 510’ drives in it.
I will be installing Server 2008 r2 enterprise edition.
I want a mirrored raid setup of this installation for redundancy in the event of SSD failure.
Can I use windows raid to mirror the system/boot disk?
If yes then what is the best way to go about this?
Like can the installer set this up, or do I install to only one disk and then turn on mirroring after the install, or maybe it is not possible….
(I don’t like to use bios level raid controllers as it makes it very hard to take the drive and stick it in another machine if needed, ditto for hardware raid if you don’t have the same card available).

I think your opinion may be reversed here.
Hardware raid 1 (mirroring) would be your preferred option, simply because you can do exactly what you stated: put the drive in another system with a like/similar controller and allow it to boot. Since you are usng SATA drives, you would generally have much better portability than if you were using SAS or SCSI.
Windows/Software raid has it’s fair share of issues, not the least of which is a performance impact, however, negligable that may be on newer systems. There is also a significan’t amount of ‘non-standard configuration that you must go through to software mirror Windows boot/system drives. But if you insist, here are your instructions straight from Microsoft.

В системнике стоит 2 жестких диска объединенных в аппаратный raid 1.
Полученный диск был разбит на 3 части.
Не могу установить на него винду, при попытке выбора любого из 3х выдает ошибку
Установка Windows на данный диск невозможна. Возможно оборудование данного компьютера не поддерживает загрузку с данного диска. Убедитесь что контроллер данного диска включен в меню BIOS компьютера.

дрова на рейд кто будет ставить
Возможно RAID не аппаратный.
Хотя виндовс прекрасно грузится и с программного RAID1, по крайней мере сделанного штатными средствами.
сейчас ОС ставят в рейд? помню раньше было принято ОС ставить на отдельный диск, данные на рейд, сейчас как с этим?
это зависит от того умет ли биос грузиться с данного контроллера и требуются ли особые драйвера для того чтобы содержимое раида можно было увидеть , был у меня случай 2 в одном , пришлось грузиться с отдельного загрузочного раздела на харде вне раида(во времена хр было)
если раньше уже ставили ту же ОС на то же железо, то удалите все партиции с зеркала на всякий случай, разберите райд1 в биосе контроллера, пересоздайте райд1 и пробуйте устанавливать опять без разбивки.
Разобрал рейд, отформатировал диски, поставил ось на другой жесткий диск, сейчас думаю собирать ли 2 жестких диска опять в рейд для данных.

Минуточку внимания
Здравствуйте! Не могу установить Windows Server 2008 R2. Вроде бы сделал Raid 1+0, но почему то показывает, что на каждом харде по 801.6Gb (хотя должно на каждом 3Tb) и общий размер 1493.0Gb

При установке ОС я, как понял, подгружаю драйвера, еле нашел на диске от производителя (HP Smart Array B110i SATA RAID Cont.), происходит следующее, начинается загрузка драйвера

и ничего не происходит, приходит к первоначальному виду, что не возможно определить хард и мол подгрузите драйвера. Скачал кучу дров (уже пробовал и левые от других серверов HP), все их находит, «устанавливает» и ничего не происходит. Уже не знаю, что делать, убил просто целый день на установку винды)) Так же пробовал установку через USB флешку, все также безрезультатно.

Извиняюсь за ранее, это мое первое знакомство с серверами, скорее всего я чего-то не так понял. И что за License Key можно вводить (Add), просмотреть (View) и удалить (Delete), в управлении RAID при запуске сервера, может быть из за этого ключа не хочет видеть хард? Сорри если тупость сказал

If you need to install Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 on a Server with a 3ware 9650SE Raidcontroller, you can’t just install it on this machine, you can’t even install it with adding the driver during the installation process.
- First Update the Raid Controller Firmware by downloading the Codeset ISO from the 3ware Download page UPDATED (Version 9.5.1 or higher).
- Burn the ISO file and boot this CD
- Update the Firmware
- Reboot with the Windows Server 2008 R2 DVD
- During the Boot (right after “Press any key to boot from CD/DVD…”) of the CD press F8 and choose “Disable Driver Signature Enforcement”
- Now you can add the Raid Controller Driver (Version 9.5.1 or higher) via USB Stick, Floppy, CD or DVD.
IMPORTANT: You can not add the Driver without an updated Firmware - After you have installed your Windows Server 2008 R2 you can download the latest Drivers and Firmware form here (Version 10.2). I could not found any Codeset ISO with Version 10.2, thats why you have to update first to 9.5.1 (or 9.5.3).
This needs to be done for all Windows Server 2008 R2 Server and Windows Server 2008 Editions.
