yes it is great

how to install it. first when u download the tiny10 you need the app called Rufus. open rufus and insert an usb. click the option select and chose tiny10 that u installed. if your computer has MBR bios click down partition scheme and chose MBR but if you have GPT(or uefi) bios chose the GPT option and after click start button. The Tiny10 was good but you need to install the drivers manually with a program called drivereasy. before you install the tiny10 make sure that you have another usb for drivereasy app.and another thing audio driver doesent work. and GTA 3, Vicecity, san andreas doesent work beacause there is not any optional features also no troubleshooting. fun fact, the comment was uploaded by an computer with tiny10 installed.

Please release a 64bit version of Tiny10 that allows updates. Almost nobody needs Windows defender, but the updates are key.

I tried tiny11 ☹️, but it uses so man resources the system is barely crawling along. Tiny10 x64 works flawlessly (fast, plenty of free ram) except you cannot do updates. Please release a version that allows updates.

I installed tiny10 beta 2 x86 and downloaded the firefox installer on another machine, transferred it via USB stick, tried to install it, but it says I can’t install 16-bit apps, tried all of the solutions on the internet and it always comes to enabling a feature from optionalfeatures which is NTVDM. and it says I can’t enable it. Any solutions?

Since I found Tiny10 I was shocked how windows was customizable. Even tho it doesnt have sound in my VM (VMware 12) its still very fast! Uses around 700MB of ram.

Some have asked for an updated guide for Windows 10, thus I would like to share my latest experiment with slimming down Windows 10 and the steps I took to get it working.

Purpose:

Create a small functional image to be used for a fast virtual machine which can run most Windows Desktop applications, using minimal memory and minimal HD space.

This is not a general guide, but just the steps I documented for my own needs, which may prove helpful to others who want to accomplish something similar. (My steps & descriptions are quite concise and without pictures, so this may not work as a beginners guide, but you can find a nice one here.

OS, VM and NTLite System Requirements

Recent version of Parallels (version 12) on a recent version of macOS (Sierra) and 8 GB RAM (this will probably work similarly in VMware)
Windows ISO file: MSDN version of Windows 10 LTSB
- I am using the LTSB version in this example, because it is already built to function without Metro and it only requires minimal updates (but other versions of Windows 10 should work similarly)
NTLite with at least the Home license, after trying out the free version (it cannot remove as much as the licensed one)

Preparations

Preferably, create a Virtual Machine as a Host for NTlite with the full version of the target OS
- for example Windows 10 LTSB 32 bit
- assign at least 3GB memory for the OS hosting NTlite
Install NTlite on the Host
- use HWlist, if targeting the OS for other hardware
Download official Windows 10 ISOs from Microsoft (this includes a lot of recent updates already) or use the RTM/MSDN ISO

- The 32bit version will create the smallest image: “Windows 10 Enterprise 2016 LTSB (x86) – DVD (English)” en_windows_10_enterprise_2016_ltsb_x86_dvd_9060010.iso

- the LTSB versions are a bit hard to get without a MSDN subscription; for more info google: ‘mydigitallife MSDN Windows 10 LTSB’
- check hash of downloaded image with Hashtab
Mount the ISO image
Copy contents of the ISO to a folder on the Desktop, for example
‘Windows10ltsb’

NTlite Settings

File – Manage License (check that the license is valid & all recent features are activated)
Toolbar – Add – Image Folder – select ‘Windows10ltsb’: to select the OS source
Right Click ‘Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB’ (install.wim) and select ‘Load’ to mount this image in NTLite (wait a minute or two…)
In Components
- Toolbar – Compatibility: select things you want to keep working…
  - Component Functionality (each category selects a bunch of stuff to keep)
    - Default fonts
    - Microsoft Office
    - Network Discovery
    - Printing
    - Recommended
    - USB
    - Video Playback
    - Windows Activation
    - Windows Update
  - Machine Support
    - Host Machine (or HWlist)
    - Parallels VM (or other VM you might use)
- Toolbar – Expand All – Uncheck All: now only the absolute minimum is selected to be installed
- Add to that the following things to keep, by checking what you need:
  - Drivers (nothing added)
    - Sound – high definition audio device – hdaudio.inf (if not already selected)
  - Hardware Support
    - click on ‘Individual Devices’ so that almost none are removed (double-check!, otherwise Win 10 may not boot)
    - Print to PDF
  - Localization
    - keep some common Fonts like Verdana, etc.
    - German Keyboard Layout & Language Support
  - Multimedia
    - Mouse Pointers
      (optional)
    - Wallpaper Default
  - Network
    - Internet Explorer client (optional – install Firefox instead)
  - Remoting and Privacy
    - Network Discovery (Homegroup not needed)
  - System
    - .Net Framework is included
    - Application Compatibility! (needed for a lot of older applications)
    - Help File Support (CHM)
    - Group Policy Client & Local Security Policy (useful for changing some otherwise inaccessible settings)
    - Event Viewer
    - Disk Defragmenter
    - Zip and Cab folder
  - Windows Apps
    - OneDrive
In Features (mostly use defaults)
- deselect XPS Viewer
- deselect Microsoft XPS Document Writer
- select Microsoft Print to pdf
In Services
- Update: Disabled (because cumulative updates break the system)
- optional: modify ‘Services’ according to Black Viper Safe list

In Local Machine
- Auto Reboot on BSOD: Disabled
- Pagefile: 256 MB
- Privacy: mostly Disabled
  - Allow Telemetry: Security

- Malicious Software Removal Tool Updates: Disabled
- Updates: Check only

In Users
- Welcome Experience: Disabled
- Privacy: almost all Disabled
In Updates – Integrate Update Packages:
- Automatically using the NTLite (v1.7+) with the Download Updates function, more info here
- Or manually:
  - To find out relevant Update packages, you should first make an NTlited install without integrated updates
    - then run Windows Update and make a list of all important Security Updates by KB number
  - Download the relevant updates based on the list created in the first step
    - manually from Microsoft Download Center https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/default.aspx ;(search by KB number) or some other tool
- Integrate relevant updates
In Drivers
- check that it all looks as expected with most drivers found
- missing Parallels Drivers will be installedd by the Parallels Tools Package
In Unattended:
- Toolbar – Enable, then Auto-fill
  - modify Administrator user Name as needed including Password
  - optional: check Auto-logon
- optional: Toolbar – Add local account: Group – Users, …
- Toolbar – Configure disk partition
  - Check… ‘Install to this partition’, ‘Maximum’
  - Label ‘Main’
- * Setup Key (check for correct key )

In Post Setup:
- To disable the Hibernate: Toolbar – Add – Command: powercfg/h (with Parameters) off
- Compress the OS to reduce size by 1.2 GB Toolbar – Add – Command: Compact (with Parameters) /CompactOS:always
- Add WinDirStat http://windirstat.info/index.html: Toolbar – Add – File windirstat1_1_2_setup.exe (with Parameters) /S
- Add Firefox https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/: Toolbar – Add – File Firefox Setup.exe (with Parameters) -ms
In Apply:
- check: Save the image: Save to outside of the VM and name it something meaningful
  - for example: Windows_10_LTSB_32bit_en_US_NTLite1.iso
- Remove non-essential editions:
  - remove Windows PE
- Image Format: Standard WIM
  - optional: use ESD compression (gets the image down by about one fourth, but can take about 15 mins longer)
- Toolbar – Preset – Save: for example Win10ltsbNTlite1
Toolbar – Preset – Save as… the preset under a new name
Toolbar – Process (and wait for a few minutes)

Installation in Parallels VM:

Select image file
- Select Operating System – ‘Windows 10’ (if not recognised)
- Option: for Software Testing
Install should then all be fully automatic for Windows 10 within a few minutes (OS compression can take a while and the VM will appear to be unresposive for possibly a few minutes)
- restarts automatically

After Installation in Parallels VM:

optional: install Sysinternals Process Explorer & add shortcut (for better Memory usage measurement)
- Memory usage about 300 MB, after a few minutes idle using Process Explorer
Install Parallels Tools
- if auto-start is disabled, manually start setup from CD drive with autorun.exe
- Unattended installation of Parallels Tools http://kb.parallels.com/en/11616: PTAgent.exe /install_silent
optional: add GPedit.msc & WinDirStat shortcuts
make Firefox default (if installed)
Check Device Manager

Limitations:

Cannot be updated properly with Windows Update, due to cumulative updates breaking the system (see Host Refresh Wizard for alternatives https://www.ntlite.com/v1-2-stable-released/ )
Network discovery has to be manually enabled
Event Viewer Errors: various such as
- Print Service
- Task Scheduler
- Driver install failed
Strange layout in Settings – Privacy – Location

I tested it with various applications, and so far everything works fine including larger ones such as Corel Draw.

Final on-disk install Sizes with Presets:

Windows 10 LTSB 1607 (32bit) NTliteTiny2 – 1.2 GB (no swap)
- The created iso image is less than 700 MB (with esd). This is my smallest image which works without problems, by leaving out Updates, Printing, OneDrive and a few other things. With more testing, this could be reduced further.
Windows 10 LTSB 1607 (32bit) NTlite9 with integrated updates – 2.3 GB (plus 500MB swap)
Windows 10 Enterprise 1703 (32bit) original FULL install – 9 GB (no compression), 7.5 GB (with compression)
Windows 10 Enterprise 1703 (32bit) NTlite1.0 with integrated updates – 2 GB (plus 500MB swap)
- This is my favorite general purpose VM, using the settings described in the tutorial

Привет! Вы когда-нибудь задумывались над тем, что может ли Windows 10 весить 700 мегабайт? И я об этом не думал, пока не нашёл сборку от одного человека с ником NTDEV и не убедился в этом самостоятельно. Основана она на Windows 10 LTSC 2019 х86 (хотя есть и на х64) — по сути облегчённая редакция, которая даже сделана самой Microsoft. Казалось бы, что там вырезать? Но оказывается есть что. Как она работает — узнаете в этом видео. Автор её конечно же исправляет, в обзоре была немного старая версия. Совсем недавно мы тестировали сборку Windows 11 от команды NTDEV и, несмотря на то, что это компактная и легкая сборка, у нее есть огромный недостаток — отсутствие русского языка, вернуть который штатными средствами системы невозможно. И приступая к тестированию новой облегченной сборки от NTDEV на основе Windows 10 LTSC, я поставил себе цель не только посмотреть, насколько шустро и стабильно она работает, но и вернуть в нее русский язык.

Но сначала стоит рассказать о том, почему сборки от NTDEV стали так популярны в IT-среде и почему про них пишут не только блогеры, но даже такие издания, посвященные программирования и информационной безопасности, как Хабр и Comss.ru. Как писал один из комментаторов на Хабре — «С каких это пор Хабр начал писать про сборки Windows? Может еще про Zver напишете?»

Его изумление можно понять, ведь сборки Windows давно стали уделом малоопытных пользователей, мало разбирающихся в информационной безопасности. Залогом стабильной работы Windows давно стала установка официального образа с сайта Microsoft, а создание сборки Windows оправдано только при ее создании для себя, как, например, в блоге «Делаем быструю игровую сборку Windows 10 Pro 20H2 за полчаса, стараясь догнать Windows 10 LTSC» с помощью утилиты NTLite.

Что же изменилось и почему сборки Windows от NTDEV вызывают такое повышенное внимание? Во-первых, у пользователей появился острый запрос на облегченные версии современных операционных систем Windows 10 и Windows 11, ведь поддержка Windows 7 и Windows 8.1 полностью прекращена. А установив даже достаточно шуструю Windows 10 LTSC на старенький ноутбук без SSD, с двухъядерным процессором и 4 ГБ ОЗУ вы столкнетесь с жуткими тормозами и практически полной невозможностью работы на нем.

Во-вторых, грамотно сделать сборку Windows 10 и 11 своими руками или облегчить уже установленную Windows становится все сложнее, и система пытается восстановить работу по умолчанию или выдает различные ошибки. Мало какая сборка способна после этого без ошибок запустить команду SFC /Scannow. Вдобавок сборки быстро теряют актуальность, и в результате затрачивать свои силы на доведение сборки Windows до идеала — задача не очень благодарная, особенно если у вас мало знаний в этом.

В-третьих, столь пристальное внимание продвинутых пользователей к сборкам NTDEV обеспечивает косвенную гарантию безопасности их использования — если бы они содержали в себе вредоносные функции, об этом быстро стало бы известно. Поэтому сегодня мы посмотрим на очередную сборку от NTDEV — Windows 10 Tiny10, созданную на базе Windows 10 LTSC, которая позиционируется разработчиком для работы на слабых и старых компьютерах и ноутбуках с небольшим объемом памяти и скромным объемом накопителя. Скачать ее можно с сайта archive.org, где лежат и остальные сборки от NTDEV.

Файл tiny10 2303 x86.iso весит чуть более трех гигабайт, а приписка «x86» означает, что сборка основана на 32-разрядной версии Windows 10 LTSC. Эта версия будет оптимальна для устройств с 2-4 ГБ ОЗУ, обеспечив их максимальное быстродействие в рабочих программах.

Я установил Windows 10 Tiny10 на виртуальную машину с 4 ГБ ОЗУ, 4 потоками процессора и объемом накопителя в 40 ГБ. Установка прошла быстро и первым делом я стал интегрировать в нее русский язык, ведь пользоваться английской версией Windows сможет не всякий. Я готовился к худшему, и пошел по самому трудному пути, скачав файл языковых пакетов для Windows 10, чтобы интегрировать его с помощью PowerShell.

Я последовательно ввел:

Но запуск команд PowerShell завершился ошибкой 0x80070057.

Но, попробовав затем установить русский язык средствами системы, я обнаружил, что он корректно скачивается и устанавливается, в отличие от сборки Windows 11 Tiny11.

Теперь, вернув русский язык, можно посмотреть на сборку от NTDEV в работе. Нас встречает лаконичное меню Пуск без программного мусора от Microsoft.

Система в простое потребляет около 1 ГБ ОЗУ. Сказать, что это впечатляет — нельзя, ведь в своих системах мне удавалось достичь более низкого результата, а в сборках на просторах интернета на основе Windows 10 LTSB встречалось потребление оперативной памяти и вовсе на уровне 600 МБ. Да и сама Windows 10 LTSB «из коробки» потребляет всего около 1 ГБ ОЗУ.

Но сборка от NTDEV оказалась «порезана» не очень сильно и многие функции сохранены, что обеспечивает стабильность работы. А Windows 10 LTSC — заметно более прожорливая система, и разница между потреблением ОЗУ с обычной версией PRO небольшая. Стоит учесть и средства VMware Tools от виртуальной машины, запущенные в системе, так что 1 ГБ потребления ОЗУ — для Windows 10 LTSC весьма неплохо.

А вот на диске сборка занимает очень небольшой объем — занято всего 7.4 ГБ на накопителе, 1.4 ГБ из которых приходится на файл подкачки.

В списке установленных программ практически пусто, как и в автозагрузке.

А вот что радует, так это то, что система обновлений Windows работает корректно — обновления скачиваются и устанавливаются.

Количество процессов меньше, чем на обычной Windows 10 LTSC, никаких подозрительных процессов нет.

Итоги

Что можно сказать в итоге? Сборка Windows 10 LTSC от NTDEV требует заметно меньше системных ресурсов, чем обычная Windows 10 LTSC, и в нее легко вернуть русский язык средствами системы. Обновления работают корректно, а большинство нужных функций остались на своих местах. При этом сборка использует довольно свежую версию Windows 21H2, которая заметно современней Windows 10 LTSB и будет еще долго получать обновления.

Хорошим выбором она будет и для новых бюджетных ноутбуков, которые даже в 2023 году продаются всего с 4 ГБ ОЗУ и процессорами Celeron, где часть ОЗУ резервируется для видеосистемы. Например, HP 15-dw1495nia, Lenovo IdeaPad 3-15 или ASUS E410MA VivoBook 14 из Регарда. На таких ноутбуках прирост производительности от облегченной Windows будет очень заметен.
