Microsoft Emulator is a desktop application that emulates a Windows 10 Mobile device when used in conjunction with Visual Studio 2015. It provides a virtualized environment in which you can debug and test universal windows apps without a physical device. It also provides an isolated environment for your application prototypes.

Simulate real-world interaction with a device and test the features of your app by using the tools included with Microsoft Emulator for Windows 10 Mobile. The emulator is a desktop application that emulates a mobile device running Windows 10. It provides a virtualized environment in which you can debug and test Windows apps without a physical device. It also provides an isolated environment for your application prototypes.
The emulator is designed to provide comparable performance to an actual device. Before you publish your app to the Windows Store, however, we recommend that you test your app on a physical device.
You can test your universal app using a unique Windows 10 Mobile emulator image for various screen resolution and screen size configurations. You can simulate real-world interaction with a device and test various features of your app by using the tools included in the Microsoft Emulator.

Microsoft Emulator runs as a virtual machine on Hyper-V, the virtualization technology for Windows 10. To run the emulator, your computer must meet the following requirements.
The Microsoft Emulator Setup configures the prerequisites for you silently when you install the emulator. If the setup succeeds in configuring the environment, the emulator simply works as expected. In some cases, you may have to enable these prerequisites manually.System Requirements:

Windows 10 Mobile Emulator with build 10563 is now available for download. This is a part of new SDK Preview that contains myriad bug fixes and under development changes to the API surface area. However, Microsoft clearly states that if you are working on a new app, you should not install it.
Microsoft also says that it is recommended to uninstall previous versions of SDKs and emulators as they might conflict with the newer version. This will also prevent user interface clutter in Visual Studio when targeting a particular emulator.
Here is what is new in this SDK.
Corrected the signing of the Microsoft General MIDI DLS for Universal Windows Apps Extension SDK
Corrected the “No .natvis files found” error when you run Debugging Tools For Windows (WinDbg)” issue with WinDbg. See https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3091112 for more details.
Corrected the Windows Performance Analyzer crashes when ResidentSet graph is used
Corrected problem that prevented trace capture on pre-Windows 8 OS releases using xperf.exe and wpr.exe.
Corrected Windows Performance Analyzer crash when trying to modify the symbols inclusion/exclusion list in the Load Settings tab of the Configure Symbols dialog.

Updated tests in the Windows App Certification Kit
The “App prelaunch” test was enabled. This test proactively prelaunches and keeps apps in the background, verifying that the app handles the prelaunch scenario correctly.
The “App resources” test now runs correctly against UWA apps. This could result in failures not previously seen but for which the apps were always expected to pass.
The “Supported APIs” test no longer fails the app if the app invokes approved APIs by ordinals.
