Consumer ISO’s are available for free to download
and ISO contains almost all the editions such as Home/Pro/Education
except Enterprise. On the other hand, Business ISO contains all the
editions except Home level editions and these ISO’s have KMS key
installed by default.

If you want to deploy Enterprise edition from the scratch, you
need to use Business ISO’s.

Business ISO’s aren’t available to download for free. Microsoft
provide them on MVS and VLSC
but for them, you need to pay a high subscription fee. For this reason,

Microsoft’s free download site often
provides ISO’s with a couple months old build. It’s fine to use that ISO

Windows 10 KB5028166 is now available for version 22H2, the last supported operating system version. This update is available for everyone and can be downloaded via Windows Update, but Microsoft has also published direct download links for Windows 10 KB5028166 offline installers.

KB5028166 for Windows 10 is a security patch, and it doesn’t have a lot of changes to mention, but it does come with plenty of bug fixes and a few improvements. For example, Microsoft is introducing many new features for Microsoft Defender for Endpoint in Windows 10 with today’s Patch Tuesday update.

Installing Windows 10 July 11, 2023, update will advance systems to Build 19045.3208 or Build 19044.3208 if you’re still on version 21H2 (Enterprise or Education edition). It is essential to understand that Windows 10’s July 2023 cumulative update has all the fixes and improvements from June 2023 preview.

It means if you have already installed June 2023 preview update, you won’t be getting the significant changes in the update. That’s because your device already has those bug fixes or improvements. However, Microsoft has promised the update will fix many security issues with Windows 10.

Windows 10 KB5028166 (Build 19045.320) Full Changelog

Windows 10 Build 19045.320 doesn’t have a lot of changes. Still, there are plenty of bug fixes and notable tweaks, like the ability to authenticate across Microsoft’s services like OneDrive or Azure.

For some systems that rely on Chinese fonts, Microsoft says those devices should expect quality enhancement. Microsoft hasn’t revealed how Chinese fonts will look better on Windows 10, but the company says it has begun using GB18030-2022, designed to make Chinese fonts cleaner.

Another change related to the Standard Chinese Characters List, where Microsoft has confirmed implementing implementation level 2 of GB18030-2022). You should expect regular, light, and bold font experience, but if you switch to Dengxian, an optional font, Windows will make the fonts look sharper.

Windows 10’s July update has a lot of bug fixes, such as a fix for an issue where scheduled monthly tasks may not run on time during daylight savings. Another bug has been fixed that should improve the reliability of the Desktop Window Manager (DWM). Microsoft has also resolved issues affecting the Spooler service, the tib. sys driver.

Finally, a bug that led to Start menu crashes, broken Windows Search experience, or even a flawed approach to Azure AD authentication has been fixed.

The other bug fixes have nothing to do with the ‘consumer’ experience of Windows, but the release notes confirmed Microsoft had fixed an issue with the “Smart Card is Required for Interactive Logon” account option. A bug in the OS blocked users from connecting to Remote Desktop Services.

Known issues in Windows 10 July 2023 update

Microsoft is aware of at least one issue that has been known since last year. As you’re probably aware, a bug in Windows installations created from custom offline media removes Microsoft Edge Legacy but does not install Chromium Edge.

This can be fixed by manually installing Microsoft Edge and only affects custom offline media consumers never use.

Evil-forced upgrades are back, but you can manually upgrade

Microsoft has ended support for Windows 10 version 21H2 and is no longer eligible for monthly updates. June was the last security update for consumer editions of version 21H2, and users need to upgrade to the last supported version of Windows 10 – 22H2. Or those with supported hardware are recommended to shift to Windows 11.

We haven’t seen reports of forced Windows 10 22H2 upgrades, but PCs still running the unsupported version will soon have a forced update rolling out via Windows Update. These forced upgrades cannot be skipped as “Windows Update will automatically initiate a feature update” when the device is detected using an unsupported OS.

Many people dislike forced upgrades, but everyone must patch their systems regularly. When the update plug is pulled, and security issues remain unpatched, you shouldn’t keep using the PC unless you’re not planning to connect to the internet.

The July 2023 update is unavailable for Windows 10 21H2, but you can get the patch by installing version 22H2, which is just an enablement package.

How to use the Direct 2 download link?

This third-party tool can be used to download the latest Windows 10 ISO file. The website provides a very easy-to-use interface, you have to use the drop-down menu to select your preferred Language and Architecture, and you are good to go.

Method 2: Using Third-Party Tools

You can even use third-party tools available to download the latest version of Windows 10 ISO in your preferred language and architecture. We are going to do this using a tool named Rufus, which is actually a tool to create bootable media, but you also can download the latest Windows ISO files directly from Microsoft servers.

Follow the below steps to do so,

• First, you need to download the latest version of Rufus.
• And then insert an empty flash drive into the system. (Note that without inserting a flash drive, you can’t proceed further)
• Now, open the Rufus application.
• Then, in the Boot selection section, select “Disk or ISO image (Please select)” from the drop-down menu.
• And click on the down arrow and select the “Download” option.

• Now, click on that Download button, and a new window will appear.

• One by one, select Version, Release, Edition, Language, and then Architecture, as shown in the below screenshot.

• Finally, there is a checkbox above the download button; if you check that, your Windows 10 ISO will be downloaded via a web browser.

Method 3.1: From Microsoft Download Page (Via Windows PC)

Microsoft has its own archive of Windows 10 ISO files, but if you are using a Windows PC, it doesn’t allow you to download the ISO file; instead, it asks you to update to the latest Windows 10 via its own tool(s).

But we found a method to download the latest Windows 10 ISO file from the same Microsoft Download page. Follow the below steps to download the latest Windows 10 ISO file,

• First, go to this URL to open the Windows 10 download page.
• Now, tap ‘CTRL+Shift+I‘ to open Developers Tools, or you can go to Three Dots -> More Tools -> Developer Tools.

• Then, again navigate to Three Dots -> More Tools -> Network Conditions.

• Now, uncheck the Use browser default which is located in front of User Agent.

• Then, click on the drop-down menu currently set as Custom.

• And then choose any non-windows OS.

• Now, click F5 or the refresh button to refresh the Windows 10 Download page.
• Finally, you can now see the option to select your preferred Windows 10 Edition.

• Click on the drop-down menu to select it, then click on the Confirm button.

Install Windows 10

Method 1: Update Update Using Windows 10 ISO File

1. Click to open the ISO file.
2. Now, Double click to set up.
3. Click Next: Install Windows 10.
4. Now a screen will prompt showing “Getting Updates“; this will take some time.
5. It will Check your PC; this will also take some time—[If during this process it asks for Product Key, it means your Windows isn’t activated].
6. Click Accept to accept all the Applicable notices and license terms.
7. Again, another screen will prompt showing “Getting Updates“; this will take some time, depending on your network speed.
8. Next, ensure you’re ready to install; just be patient and wait; this might take a bit longer.
9. Ready to install. Click Install.
10. Now it will start installing Windows 10 onto your PC, and this will restart your system several times; this process will take some time.

Method 2: Clean Install Using Windows 10 ISO File

If you have your Windows 10 ISO File ready to update your system to Windows 10 Latest Update, all you have to do is boot from the disc or USB thumb drive to start the setup. Now follow the following steps to clean install Windows 10 using the ISO file,

1. Insert a flash drive, at least 16 GB.
2. Now, open Rufus to create bootable media for Windows 10.
3. Make sure to keep all the default settings as it is.
4. Now, click on the Start button and wait a while to finish.
5. After completion, Rufus will ask you to restart the PC.
6. Restart your PC, and while booting, before the Windows logo, tap the Boot Menu key to open it.

1. You see a screen with a list of drives, choose the one you inserted/plugged in, and hit Enter.
2. Then the Windows logo will appear on the screen for a while; if you see the animated dots, it means everything is fine.
3. Next, you will be asked to select your Language, Time, and Keyboard method, and after configuring all these things, Click Next.
4. Now click on Install Now.
5. Now, Windows 10 set-up will ask you to enter the Product Key; if you have a Windows 10 product key, proceed to enter it. Otherwise, click on “I don’t have a key” or “Do this later.”
6. Now setup will ask you to choose the correct edition of which you have a License, either Home or Pro. Make sure to enter the correct edition if you choose the wrong edition, then you would need to perform a clean install again.
7. Just wait for a while; the system prepares itself to copy files.
8. Accept the license terms. To do so, check the box in front of “I accept the license terms.”
9. Click Next.
10. Click Custom: Install Windows only (advanced).
11. Select the drive and then click Next. [If there are multiple partitions, select each from the bottom, then click to delete until only one unallocated drive is left]
12. Select the unallocated drive list; Click New > Apply > OK.
13. Select the Primary partition from multiple partitions, and click Next.
14. Just wait for a few seconds while Windows install.
15. When all this setup completes, Windows will reboot into the setup automatically.
16. After this, Windows will detect and install hardware. and it will restart for the last time.

It is the second Tuesday of the month, so Microsoft has released cumulative security updates for its operating systems. KB5028166 is now available for Windows 10 22H2 and 21H2 (specific editions only), currently the latest version of Windows 10, and you can install this update through Windows Update or using the offline installers linked below.

Installing KB5028166 will upgrade the operating system’s build to 19044.3208 (21H2) and 19045.3208 (22H2). Most of the improvements included in this update were released in last month’s optional non-security update KB5027293. So if you installed that update, then this one ought to be a small one.

Fixes and improvements in KB5028166

This update includes all the improvements that were introduced in KB5027293 which was released on 27th June 2023 and was a Type D update, and then some. You can click on the given link to learn what improvements it holds. Apart from those, KB5028166 only includes security improvements.

With these improvements, there are also some known issues with this update.

Known issues in KB5028166

An issue with the standalone (clean) installation of Windows 10 with this update is causing Microsoft Edge Legacy to be removed. However, it is not being replaced by the new Chromium-based Edge.

This occurs only when Windows has a custom offline media or an ISO image installed that does not include the 29th March 2021 SSU update. Microsoft suggests that you either install the March SSU update through slipstreaming or simply update an existing OS through Windows Update, so you will not be facing this issue.

Alternatively, you can simply download and install the new Microsoft Edge if you have already encountered this problem.

This issue has been around for a while and Microsoft still hasn’t fixed it.

To install the update, simply run the downloaded MSU file and Windows will automatically install the update. You can also extract the CAB file from the MSU file and install it.

Windows Update

To install this update via Windows Update, you need to be running Windows 10 version 22H2 or 21H2 (with the supported edition). To check the version and edition of the operating system, type in “winver” in the Run Command box and press Enter.

Once ensured you have the right OS version, perform the following steps to install KB5028166:

1. Navigate to the following:

   Settings app > Update and Security > Windows Update

2. Click “Check for updates” on the right.

   

   You will now see the following update downloading and installing automatically:

Rollback/remove Windows 10 cumulative update

If you do not wish to keep the installed update for some reason, you can always roll back to the previous build of the OS. However, this can only be performed within the next 10 days after installing the new update.

To roll back after 10 days, you will need to apply this trick.

Cleanup after installing Windows updates

If you want to save space after installing Windows updates, you can run the following commands one after the other in Command Prompt with administrative privileges:

dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /AnalyzeComponentStore
dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup

Block KB5028166 from installing

Since these are mandatory updates, they will download and install themselves on the schedule. If you want to block them from installing, temporarily or permanently, you can follow the steps below:

1. Download the “Show or hide updates” tool from Microsoft.

2. Run the utility and click Next to start the scanning process.

   

3. Next, click the “Hide updates” button.

   

4. Select the update(s) you want to block and click Next.

   This automatically hides the update from Windows Update and it will not be installed during the next update process.

5. Click the Close button.

If you want to unhide or show hidden updates, run the tool again and select “Show hidden updates” instead of “Hide updates.” The rest of the process is the same.
