Visual Studio 2012 Express for Windows 8 is the free download software that helps you develop Windows 8 Apps using C#, VB.NET or C++. Also, if you are a web developer who like to use HTML5, CSS3 and Javascript, Express for Windows 8 will not disappoint you.
Visual Studio 2012 comes with great tools to help you develop Windows 8 metro style apps. The full edition of Visual Studio will be the ideal software but if you cannot afford to buy the paid edition, then you can go for the Express edition. Where to download Visual Studio 2012 Express for Windows 8
You can download the express editions from the official Microsoft website for Visual Studio.
The download file is about 2.71 GB. However, it might require some extra space to expand the temporary files and complete the installation.
There are 2 links available. In the above screenshot, the «Install Now» link allows you to download a small setup file and then install it by downloading files from the web while installing. This allows you to start the installation quickly but you require an active internet connection to complete the installation process.
The second option is to download an .ISO file of Visual Studio 2012 Express edition. This will download the full setup files in to your computer. After the downloading is done, you can disconnect from the internet. Installation can be done offline.
System requirements
The system requirements for Visual Studio 2012 Express for Windows 8 are explained below:
Operating system: Windows 8 (either x86 or x64). If you don’t have Windows 8 installed, you may download Windows 8 90 days trial version.
Supported architectures: 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x64)

How to install Express for Windows 8
If you are downloading the web setup file, double click on the file to start the installation. If you have downloaded the .ISO image, then burn the ISO file in to a DVD or attach it as a drive to your computer. Start the setup.exe file. You will see the window shown below:
Click on the «Install» button in the bottom to start the installion. Depending your computer speed and other resources available, it may take up to an hour to complete the installation.
How to get a license key for Visual Studio 2012 Express
When you launch VS Express edition first time, you will be prompted to enter a license key. If you do not provide a license key, your software will expire in 30 days. The good news is, registration can be done by clicking on a link in the same screen and it is absolutely free. To complete the registration, you need to provide the personal details and after the submitting the details, the product key for Visual Studio 2012 will be displayed for you. You can copy paste the license key to your Visual Studio prompt to launch the product.
Even though this product key is free, you are not expected to share it with others. Each developer has to register himself and get his own product key.
When you launch the Visual Studio Express for Windows 8 first time, you will be prompted to get a Windows 8 Developer license.
The developer license is required to test and run the Windows 8 style apps on your computer. You can proceed through the wizard to register and obtain the Windows 8 developer license.

VISUAL STUDIO EXPRESS is an integrated development environment software developed by Microsoft. The platform was released in 2005 and was released as a freeware and register ware of a function limited version of Microsoft’s non-free Visual Studio. The express editions were released with Visual Studio 2005. The platform was released for free, but with different licenses as per user request. The new licenses are more friendly to open-source and less friendly to some closed source developers. The Visual Studio works with plugins, that features a previously exclusive paid edition. The express editions are however available for free in the time being.
The platform through helps users to develop a lot of applications seamlessly; Visual Studio also has a number of limitations. The platform does not contain any kind of IDE support for databases other than the traditional SQL Server Express and Microsoft Access. Also, the platform has a lack of crystal reports, support for creating Windows Services, OpenMP, code folding, limited options for debugging and breakpoints, and no deploying for mobile devices with no templates or emulators. But during the later versions, there have been different improvements over the 2005 versions like runtime debugging, fixing common spelling errors, and better IntelliSense support.

Metro Apps Deployment: The platform allows deployment of metro-styles applications that are available for Windows Store coded in C#, VB.NET, C++, and also Javascript.

Conventional Deployment: The platform also allows users to process conventional deployment in Windows applications on C++, VB.NET, and C++ that target Windows client technologies like Windows Presentation Founder (WPF), Win32 API, and Windows Forms. Installation Requirements for VISUAL STUDIO EXPRESS
To install the VISUAL STUDIO EXPRESS on PC, make sure that the following requirements are met by the user in the PC desktop.

How to Download VISUAL STUDIO EXPRESS on Windows
Follow the below steps to download and install the VISUAL STUDIO EXPRESS on your PC:

Go to VISUAL STUDIO EXPRESS’s website, and go to Downloads.

Click on Download Now.

Select ‘Save’ to download the program. The file will be saved in the Downloads folder.

If you want to save in a specified folder on your desktop, then click on ‘Save As’ and select the folder you want the program to be saved.

After the download is complete click on the .exe file.

The new Visual Studio Express 2012 is capable of doing the same projects that Visual Studio 2010 Express did like, WPF, WinForms, Visual Basic Class Libraries, console, C#, class libraries, Win32 projects, and apps for C++. It is also possible to combine C#, C++ and projects belonging to Visual Basic into one solution so that it is easy to write one application using any language available. In the end, it is possible to round trip projects with the SP1 of Visual Studio 2012.

A targeted set of code analysis works as it is added to the latest Visual Studio 2012 incorporated for Windows 8. Data Connections:
In the earlier versions of the Express Products, the data source can be connected, but was limited to the files of database. Visual Studio Express made for Windows Desktop can support data sources of SQL server. For instance, in a Database explorer, individuals can navigate, connect, edit and query against object via the newest Windows Azure SQL and SQL Server 2012.
Features specific to languages:
The Windows Desktop version of Visual Studio 2012 features new VS library features and 2012 language. This includes await and async keywords in C++ AMP, C#, Visual Basic and improvised standards in C++ 11. Windows Desktop Express can be used with C# applications and Visual Basic in order to consider both platforms. Now it also includes 64-bit version of C++, libraries and cross compliers to build desktop applications (64-bit) without installing the older version of the Windows SDK. The new Visual Basic Express also features simpler control of source code, item tracking work, TFS provided automation.
