This guide covers step-by-step instructions to download & install Fastboot drivers on Windows 11. A device bootloader is among the most essential tool, especially if you are more into Android customization. From changing the interface to usability and functionality, you can tweak anything by accessing your device bootloader. But in order to use the bootloader, it’s essential for you to have all the vital drivers installed on your computer. If Windows doesn’t feature the vital drivers, it will fail to identify the connected Fastboot device. To summarise, your Windows needs to have the Fastboot drivers in order to execute Fastboot Commands. What is ADB?

ADB stands for Android Debug Bridge, and as it is pretty clear by the name itself, it acts as a bridge between your Android smartphone and Windows PC. What is Fastboot?

The Fastboot binary is among those things of the Android ecosystem, which can be complex for users whose sole purpose of using a smartphone is to make calls and messages. It is a protocol that is used for sending commands to your Android phone over USB. But if you are more into exploring the environment, you must have a piece of prior knowledge about Fastboot and ADB. In Fastboot, your device won’t be booted in a default Android interface. Instead, you will find a dedicated Fastboot menu that makes sure that, unlike ADB, you don’t have to go through enabling the USB debugging feature on your Android smartphone. You can use the Fastboot commands to unlock the bootloader of the Android smartphone that you are using.

But similar to ADB, your PC must feature essential Fastboot drivers in order to recognize the smartphone in Fastboot mode. Enable USB debugging on Android

To enable USB debugging on Android smartphones, follow the below steps.

1. Open the Settings menu on your Android smartphone, and open the About Phone option.
2. In the following window, tap on the Build number option seven times.
3. Now, come back to the settings homepage.
4. Navigate to Additional Settings > Developer options.
5. Toggle on the USB debugging option.

Download SDK Platform-Tool for Windows

Once you have enabled the USB debugging option on your Android smartphone, it’s time to download the latest SDK Platform-Tool from Android studio. To do so, follow the below steps.

1. Open Google Chrome, navigate to the Android Studio website and download SDK Platform-Tool for Windows.
2. Extract the downloaded file to a remote place on your PC.
3. Open the extracted folder and click on the address bar.
4. Type CMD in the address bar and press the enter key.
5. In the command prompt window that pops up, type the below-mentioned command to boot the device in the Fastboot mode.

Download, and Install Google USB Driver

Now that you have the Android SDK platform installed on your system, it’s time to get your hands on the Google USB driver. Here’s how it’s done.

1. Open Google Chrome, navigate the Android studio platform, and download the Google USB Driver zip file.
2. Extract the downloaded file.
3. Now, press the Windows + X key simultaneously, and from the context menu, choose Device Manager.
4. Expand the portable devices option.
5. Right-click on the smartphone name you have connected with the computer using a USB cable, and choose the Update driver option.
6. In the following window, choose the Browse my computer for drivers option.
7. Click on Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
8. Click on Have Disk option.
9. In the prompt that pops up, choose the Browse option.
10. Select, and open the android_winusb.inf file available in the Google USB folder.
11. Now, click on OK.
12. Select the Android bootloader interface from the following window and click on the next option.
13. Choose the Install option from the prompt that pops up.
14. That’s it. You have finally installed Android bootloader interface drivers on your system.

Yes, you can run the APK on Windows 11; in fact, it is one of the significant updates in the latest Windows OS. You can install the APK apps; you need to use Windows Subsystem for Android. To be very precise, you download and install Android apps on Windows 11 officially using Amazon App Store. You can even sideload Android apps on your Windows PC using the ADB tools.

What is WSA in Windows 11?

WSA stands for Windows Subsystem for Android. It is a newly introduced feature in Windows 11, and you can use it to run Android applications that are available on the Amazon App Store.

ADB (Android Debug Bridge) and Fastboot (a protocol between phone and computer is a nifty command-line tool used to interact with your Android device from a computer. In this guide, we’ll show you how you can download and setup ADB on Windows 10 computer, using ADB and Fastboot, Installing Google USB driver along with resources and a step-by-step guide.

What are ADB and Fastboot?

ADB and Fastboot are the tools used to send terminal commands to your Android phone via a computer while connected through a USB cable. Although, both serve different functions but can be installed at the same time. Below is a quick breakdown of what these tools are and what do they do.

• Android Debug Bridge (ADB): This tool allows you to send a wide array of terminal commands — including but not limited to basic Linux shell commands, plus some specialty developer commands — to your phone at just about any time (as long as you have debugging enabled on your phone). You can send commands while the phone is turned on and booted, or even when it’s in recovery mode. While ADB is often used in conjunction with rooting or modifying your phone, you can use ADB to send terminal commands to unrooted devices as well. ~ Lifehacker

For example, you can copy files from your computer to Android storage by using “ADB push ironman3.Mkv /sd card/Movies/” command.

• Fastboot: a protocol between phone and computer. When you need to modify your phone’s firmware, Fastboot is the tool you need. This allows you to send commands to the bootloader, which means you can flash/modify things like custom recoveries. You can’t flash whole ROMs with it, but it’s helpful for many things that ADB can’t do. Fastboot isn’t enabled for all phones, so you may have to check your specific device. ~ Lifehacker

You can flash a custom recovery using “fastboot flash recovery twrp.img” (twrp.img should be located in the same folder).

Both of these tools come with the Android SDK. However, that’s an extremely large download that, frankly, most users who are interested in ADB and fastboot don’t need. Fortunately, Google recently made it easy to get these two without all the junk.

Google made a relatively small package called “Platform-tools” that includes ADB and Fastboot along with some other utilities.

Step 1. Download Google SDK Tools for Windows 10

Google named Platform Tools package that includes Fastboot, ADB and other utilities. To download the Platform-tools package visit this page, These are the separate package for Windows, Linux, and Mac.

Choose an appropriate version of the Platform tool, select terms, and click on the big blue button to download.

Step 2. Run

Navigate to the Platform Tools folder, Right-click, and choose “open command prompt” from here. If you see Powershell option instead on the command prompt, use this guide.

To use ADB commands you must enable “USB Debugging” feature on your phone. Otherwise, it won’t work.

You can install an apk file (stored on your computer) to your phone using this command

Pulling/pushing a file

Use “adb push filename /path” to send the file to the mobile device.

For starters, I used the “fastboot devices” command will display all the connected devices which are in fastboot mode. For example to enter in fastboot mode in a Xiaomi device you have to turn off the phone, start it pressing Power + Vol Down simultaneously.

Step 3. Optional, Modify Adb Path

1. Open “Advanced system settings.”
2. Click “View Advanced system settings.”
3. Click the box that says “Environment Variables.”
4. Under “System Variables” click on the variable named “Path.”
5. Click “Edit…” and enter ADB folder location.

Install ADB and Fastboot Drivers

Google USB drivers are required to perform ADB debugging with Android devices. Generally, when you connect the Android device to Windows 10, it will automatically download drives via Windows update. But in case it didn’t

1. Click to download the Google USB Driver (8MB ZIP file)
2. After download, extract the ZIP file.
3. Open “Device manager”.
4. Find Portable Devices.
5. Right-click on your phone name and Update driver.

1. Now Navigate to the driver folder using the browse button. Select the extracted folder and click on next.

If everything goes right Google USB driver should be installed and your computer will recognize your phone just fine.

Install Android Bootloader Interface through Windows update

Starting with Windows version 20H2, Microsoft has quietly added it to Optional Updates. This means that you will have to go into the settings and install this software, which I am giving below in the steps and the steps are quite easy, you hardly need to face any problem in doing this from the office, for this you need an internet connection.

QUIckly open Windows settings and then Windows Updates (find under Update and security). Under the Check for update button you can see optional updates button right beneath it.

Now you have to click on the arrow icon. All optional updates will be shown here, select any update and download and install it. For this, you will need an internet connection. If you have a metered connection to your internet connection, then you can install such updates by coming here.

That’s it.

Manually Installing ADB and Fastboot Interface

Do this when ADB and fastboot commands are not working or your computer didn’t recognize devices when checking through ADB devices and fastboot devices command. This is a normal case with the recent version of Windows 10 and with some Oneplus devices.

prerequisite

1. Disable driver signature enforcement: open a PowerShell window and enter bcdedit /set testsigning on (and off when done).
2. Install Oneplus Driver, select Install this driver security prompt when asked.
3. Open device manager and look for Android Phone and Android Bootloader Interface if they show up somehow.

1. From “Action” select Add legacy hardware.

1. Click Next.

1. Choose Install the hardware that I manually select from a list (Advanced).

1. Select Android Phone.

1. Unless you’re connecting a device of other manufacturer such as Xiaomi device, Select Google, Inc. and choose Android Bootloader Interface. (Repeat the steps for Android ADB Interface).

1. The wizard will install the software, after that the ADB and Fastboot tools should work fine with your phone. remember not all of the phones are supported Fastboot, you should check your specific device.

ADB является инструментом для отладки, который позволяет получить доступ к консоли Андроид с компьютера (подробнее →), подключив гаджет к ПК по USB. При этом должна быть включена отладка. Fastboot предназначен для работы с устройством, когда то загружено в одноименном режиме (если такой доступен на девайсе).

При помощи ADB можно управлять смартфоном/планшетом с компьютера: сделать бэкап приложений, сбросить графический пароль, записать скринкаст, перевести смартфон в режим Recovery и многое другое. Кроме того, с ADB можно работать и через Wi-Fi. Для этого на устройстве должны быть получены root-права, а также понадобится специальное приложение, с помощью которого осуществляется подключение к ПК по сети. Например, ADB Wireless либо WiFi ADB. Но это уже материал для отдельной статьи.

Используя Fastboot, вы сможете устанавливать прошивки, кастомные Рекавери (TWRP или CWM), разблокировать Bootloader (на телефонах HTC, Motorola, Sony, Nexus, Pixel, Huawei, последних LG он заблокирован), очищать разделы системы.

Как установить ADB и Fastboot: инструкция

1. Перейдите на официальный сайт, откуда можно скачать Android SDK: https://developer.android.com/studio/index.html. Спуститесь вниз страницы к разделу «Command line tools only» и выберите архив для Windows.

2. Установите галочку в чекбоксе «I have read and agree with the above terms and conditions» и нажмите кнопку «Download Android Command Line Tools for Windows». Начнется загрузка архива.

3. Скачайте его и разархивируйте в корень Диска «C:».

4. Также необходимо загрузить комплект разработчика Java Development Kit с официальной страницы. Перейдите на сайт, согласитесь с условиями лицензионного соглашения, отметив пункт «Accept License Agreement», и скачайте версию JDK, соответствующую разрядности операционной системы компьютера.

После этого установите скачанный пакет. Дальше описаны несколько вариантов установки Fastboot и ADB – воспользуйтесь тем, который покажется проще.

Первый способ

Вернитесь к папке c инструментами Android SDK, откройте «tools» и запустите пакетный файл «android».

Отметьте пункт «Android SDK Platform-tools» (а также «Google USB driver», если у вас устройство Google Nexus или Pixel) и нажмите «Install Packages».

Выберите «Accept License» и нажмите «Install».

Хотя лог показал, что возникла ошибка, процесс завершился успешно.

По завершении выполнения вышеописанных действий в директории «sdk-tools-windows-version» появится папка «platform-tools», а в ней будут содержаться интересующие утилиты «ADB» и «Fastboot».

Второй способ

Перейдите в папку «sdk-tools-windows-версия» → «tools» → «bin» и, зажав клавишу «Shift», щелкните правой кнопкой мышки по пустой области. Выберите «Открыть окно команд» либо «Открыть окно PowerShell здесь», если на ПК или на ноутбуке установлена одна из последних сборок Windows 10.

Вставьте команду в PowerShell или в командную строку (в PowerShell вначале добавьте .\ или ./):

sdkmanager platform-tools

Щелкните «Enter», чтобы выполнить команду. Произойдет загрузка файлов и появится запрос на установку:

Accept? (y/N)

Чтобы предоставить разрешение, введите y, что означает «yes», и нажмите «Enter», после чего начнется установка компонентов «platform-tools».

Существуют различные универсальные установщики ADB-драйверов (к примеру, этот: https://adbdriver.com/downloads/) – ими тоже можно пользоваться, например, когда по какой-то причине не удалось установить официальное решения.

Если для вашей модели доступны драйверы без установщика, придется выполнить следующие действия:

1. Зайдите в «Панель управления» → «Диспетчер устройств». В Windows 10 достаточно нажать правой кнопкой мышки по меню «Пуск» и выбрать «Диспетчер устройств».

2. Найдите в списке девайс, для которого нужно установить драйверы. Щелкните правой кнопкой мышки и нажмите «Обновить драйверы».

Как видите, компьютер корректно распознает тестируемый планшет Nexus 7. Если ваш ПК определяет смартфон неправильно или напротив устройства отображается желтый треугольник с восклицательным знаком внутри, «ручная» установка драйверов Android для вас обязательна.

3. Выберите пункт «Выполнить поиск драйверов на этом компьютере».

4. Укажите расположение папки с драйверами на жестком диске.

Дождитесь завершения установки и затем заново подключите гаджет к компьютеру по USB.

Как начать работать с Fastboot и ADB

Взаимодействие пользователя с ADB и Fastboot осуществляется через командную строку, утилиты запускаются двумя способами:

1: Правой клавишей мышки щелкните на «Пуск» и выберите «Командная строка (администратор)» либо «Windows PowerShell (администратор)».

Далее при помощи команд укажите путь к папке с ADB и Fastboot (после ввода каждой нажимайте «Enter»).

Чтобы вернуться в корень диска «C:\», используйте:

cd /

Благодаря этой команде выполняется переход к требуемому каталогу:

cd

В конкретном примере команда, содержащая путь к папке, выглядит следующим образом:

cd C:\sdk-tools-windows-version\platform-tools

Путь к Fastboot и ADB указан, теперь работа с утилитами осуществляется из консоли.

Чтобы не выполнять эти действия каждый раз, добавьте путь к «platform-tools» в переменную «Path». Сначала зайдите в папку, в строке навигации щелкните правой кнопкой мыши по «platform-tools» и выберите «Копировать адрес».

Перейдите в «Панель управления». Для этого нажмите «Win» + «R» и в поле «Открыть:» вставьте control. Нажмите «ОК».

Выберите «Система» → «Дополнительные параметры системы» → «Переменные среды…».

Найдите перемененную «Path», выделите ее и выберите «Изменить…».

Нажмите «Создать», вставьте путь к папке «platform-tools» и щелкните «ОК».

2: Зайдите в «sdk-tools-windows-version» → «platform-tools», затем, удерживая «Shift», щелкните правой кнопкой мыши по пустому месту и выберите пункт «Открыть окно команд» или «Открыть окно PowerShell здесь».

Введите следующую команду, чтобы проверить, как ПК видит Android-устройство (в Windows PowerShell вставьте ./ или .\ перед командой):

adb devices
