After installing:

See the Control Panel for Kel’s bonus utilities and under «Add/Remove Windows Components» you should probably also add:

Management and Monitoring Tools + Networking Services + Other Network File and Print Services + Windows Search 4.0

If you’re using .NET Framework 4.0 (installed by default) then every time you install a new update or application for .NET Framework you should run:

«%systemroot%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\ngen.exe executequeueditems»

to boost system performance and ensure reliability.

There seems to be some false positives picked up by windows defender. If you do not trust this file, follow the guide I linked above to make your own. Remember you must carry it out on a windows xp machine (or vm).

(August 2023) I used 7-zip to unpack the files to a folder and then analyzed them with MalwareBytes. It found two instances of «PUP.Optional.OpenCandy» (MB name), which hijacks your browser and directs ads to your machine. See https://www.malwarebytes.com/blog/detections/pup-optional-opencandy
MalwareBytes can quarantine the PUPs.
During extraction, 7-zip reported additional data following the payload data, which might be the PUP. It also had some kind of difficulty with a (Boot) NoEmul.img that appeared to be a duplicate file. At the end of the extraction (and a test) of the extracted files, 7-zip appeared to hang on one of those files.
I have not yet tried to install this version of XP into my VirtualBox VM, but it appears like it might work.
There is a product key included in the file «XPSERIALKEY.TXT» within the ISO file.
Since I haven’t finished installing it, I will not give it a rating on this revew.

Quirks on some hardware configs

On several attempts, it didn’t want to work. Maybe it was the DVD(s) burned too fast / slightly-imprecise… Maybe it was my old disc drives… Or hardware and BIOS complications…

But I eventually got it working! Currently installing stuff as we speak…

I believe i ran into this issue:

XP Installation – The 34 minute hiccup

If you want advice regarding usage… I’m going to be interfacing with old floppy disk drives, as well as playing old games. (I’ll actually be using MS-DOS with this computer too) I strongly advise not to input ANY sensitive personal or login information, and be careful running untrustworthy EXE/BAT/COM files from the internet. Windows XP is a great target for malware, and isn’t receiving active security updates.

This actually worked okay, I used this on a VM with no Internet access, ignore the guy claiming that it has virus and someone logged in his Amazon account maybe it has viruses or false positives but, WHY ARE YOU USING WINDOWS XP TO BUY THINGS ONLINE YOU DUM-DUM, in fact don’t use WinXP to connect to the internet is dangerous period! more now than ever that the source code of it leaked online, if you use XP to connect to your important accounts you deserve to get hacked. Other than that this version is legit in that it has many updates but I wouldn’t trust it for anything else than running programs offline.

Do not use it!!! It is dangerous!!!

I downloaded the file on 26 Feb. 2021 because I wanted to find out, if it works on my PC. I own an XP Home CD.

After that, someone from the USA logged into my amazon account. (keylogger?)
He/she also wrote nasty comments on RT in Russia.

Fortunately he/she did not do any harm but I have changed my passwords etc. and I have also changed the method of payment in my amazon account.

Never, ever download this crap.

2 Major issues;

Ignore the review posted by «Ethan Queen», I am actually someone who went through the whole process of trying this and can confirm the following findings;

I used Rufus to create the USB and it took nearly 6 HOURS from start to finish. (Laptop used has a 7th gen intel Core i3 with 4 GB of RAM, so more than capable for such task)

During the creation of the USB, 1 Trojan virus was detected by Panda security and was eliminated immediately and moved to quarantine, so not sure if it made the transfer to the USB or not. BEWARE.

Most importantly though, when the USB was ready to use and an attempt was made to install this onto another laptop, it came up with a Microsoft «verification» check during Windows Setup. The installation will not proceed unless you already possess a genuine Windows XP CD to verify that you are «eligible for this upgrade». AGAIN, BEWARE. Without one of these discs, you cannot install!

Luckily for me, I own a disc that allowed me to bypass this issue and continue to the installation..

I have since put the installation on hiatus until I can verify the security of this piece of software. I am currently scanning my working laptop for further virus/malware etc since using this.

100% REAL review, don’t waste any effort like I did.

Does not work properly.

1. Takes absolutely forever to install
2. USB thumb drives are slower than USB 1.0 speeds. Waited over 2 hours to copy a 180MB file over a USB 2.0 interface and it still wasn’t done.
3. File explorer stops responding
4. File copy progress window is missing
Got tired of messing with it so I decided to install XP and do the normal updates myself.
Don’t waste your time with this.

XP is not supported anymore, but this pack solves different issues. It is not a hidden fact that Microsoft has announced its withdrawal of support for the Windows XP and they have affected this policy as new versions of the Windows OS have been created, with this in mind it is very evident that there will no longer be updates and security patches for the users of Windows XP. В апреле 2014 года компания Microsoft оставила без поддержки свой самый долгоживущий продукт, Windows XP, выпущенный ещё в далёком 2001 году. Не смотря на это, многие пользователи по-прежнему не перешли на новые версии Операционных Систем и используют Windows XP, которая занимает почти 25% рынка ОС.

Из-за того, что поддержка системы закончилась, Microsoft больше не выпускает обновления безопасности. Но разработчик из Греции, harkaz, решил объединить все обновления, выпущенные для 32-битной Windows XP, а также терминальной версии POSReady 2009, для которой обновления были выпущены уже после окончания поддержки. Созданный им пакет он называет «Неофициальный Service Pack 4».

«Многие пользователи, включая меня, кто не может модернизировать и обновить свои старые «машины» на новую ОС хотели бы установить все обновления Windows в виде одного удобного пакета. По этой причине я начал работу над пакетом Service Pack 4», — заявил harkaz.

Разработчик этого пакета также сообщил, что Unofficial SP4 представляет собой накопительный пакет обновления для Windows XP (x86). Он может быть установлен на работоспособную версию Windows XP SP1 или же интегрирован на любой установочный носитель.

Пакет включает в себя:

Большинство компонентов Windows XP, включая Media Center Edition
NET Frameworks 4.0, 3.5, 1.1 и 1.0
Возможность проверки обновлений с помощью трюка с Windows Embedded POSReady и многое другое

Понятно, что Microsoft к этому пакету никакого отношения не имеет, поэтому пользователи, которые решили установить этот пакет, делают это на свой страх и риск. Но у нас нет никаких оснований считать, что harkaz создавал SP4 для какого-то злого умысла. Над проектом он начал работать в сентябре 2013 года и сейчас разработка находится на стадии бета. Сейчас доступна третья бета-версия. В ближайшее время ожидается выход Release Candidate.
