The new version of Windows 8 has been leaked. The new leak is 64-bit Windows 8 of M3 (milestone 3) build 6.2.7989.0 with full build string of 6.2.7989.0.amd64fre.winmain.110421-1825, apparently from winmain branch, the branch that typically get released as a beta, RC or RTM. The build version also indicates that the build is compiled on April 11, 2011. That almost two months earlier, which means the development of Windows 8 now is almost closed to beta phase.
New features that been found on Windows 8 M3 include immersive UI (patched shsxs.dll for unlock required), new boot screen, new “Language Switcher” interface on Taskbar, new interface to enable or disable Windows functions, new Aero in “Metro-style”, new History Vault interface, and a new wallpaper. The build is also found to be much more stable that previously leaked builds. However, some features such as user tiles have been locked and hidden instead.
For people who interested, the leaked 64-bit version of Windows 8 M3 Build 7989 is now available for download via BT torrent.

There is another version of ISO for leaked Windows 8 Build 7989 which has missing 200 KB of size also circulating on the Web, which has the MD5 of 5CB7A32FB7A83972081792EC27BA8CCC and SHA1 of 5C7828407F6C8CD8EE655E821AEA85F3544BCB84, but the build is functional and working too with identical install.wim file.
Microsoft has demoed Windows 8 publicly on its new user interface and some new features. It’s widely believed that the beta version of Windows 8 will be released soon, probably some time in September when the BUILD event is held.

Windows 8 build 7989 is a Milestone 3 build of Windows 8, which was originally released on 18 June 2011 in the x64 architecture, then on 8 February 2020, an x86 checked/debug version of it was uploaded to BetaArchive. The unmodified version of the AMD64 architecture’s ISO image was later found on 18 June 2022.
Unlike the earlier compile of build 7985, the «Welcome» text on the boot screen is still as small as in the fbl_core1_kernel_npc compile of build 7973.

Redpill[edit | edit source]
When the «Share» button from the charms bar is clicked, a cat image called shrscr.png is created in the %temp% folder, with text saying «U can haz no pix. GIMME FISH» along with a bug ID at the bottom. The text is most likely a reference to the strict Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) that existed during Windows 8’s development, implying that no images of the operating system can be shared.

Compatibility[edit | edit source]
To install or run this build in VMware Workstation, you must set the hardware compatibility to version 8.x or below; otherwise, a bugcheck will occur.
EFI support[edit | edit source]
The originally leaked x64 version of this build from 2011 does not support EFI hardware as it was bundled with a boot.wim image from the x86 version of the Windows 7 RTM build. To resolve this, either copy install.wim into an x64 installation disc of build 7600 or 7601, or deploy the image through DISM. Note that this fix might not work for some UEFI configurations.
Start screen[edit | edit source]
- When enabling Redpill, the start screen may appear to be empty.
- Like build 7985, an option to «uninstall» the desktop from the Start screen is present but does not function.
Aero Glass in Starter and Home Basic[edit | edit source]
This build automatically enables Aero Glass transparency even when installing the Starter or Home Basic SKUs, which is not supported by default. However, changing the color scheme (visual style) to another one and then back to the default one will disable Aero Glass.
Redpill[edit | edit source]
The original x64 leak from 2011 has a malformed twinui.dll binary that is installed by default, which will result in the user interface failing to initialize properly if redpilled. To fix this, run the following command under a command prompt and reboot before running Redlock:
sfc /SCANFILE=C:\Windows\System32\TWINUI.DLL
Bug when disabling DWM[edit | edit source]
If you had an application and Metro search bar (or anything other than it) before disabling DWM, you may see the application as a black background and the search bar may appear again. To fix this, enable DWM again and restart to see it working with DWM disabled.

Эта сборка относится к этапу разработки Milestone 3 и несет в себе такие изменения (по сравнению с предыдущими сборками из М1 и М2), как новый экран загрузки, новый индикатор прогресса на этапе установки оборудования, изменения в стандартной теме Aero, возможность включения прозрачности для темы AeroLite, несколько изменений в ленточном интерфейсе проводника и новое фоновое изображение, которое как и предыдущее вновь содержит загадочный кроссворд с новыми буквами в нем.
Стоит также отметить, что в этой сборке по умолчанию включена «Панель ввода планшетного ПК», но от нее достаточно легко избавиться. Вполне возможно, что она содержит новый интерфейс системы, продемонстрированный Microsoft в ходе кейнота на D9 на примере сборки 7985, но энтузиасты все еще не обнаружили способа его включения.
