Palm Desktop — это программа, позволяющая копировать информацию, которая хранится в КПК (с ОС Palm) на настольный компьютер. Данная утилита состоит из нескольких приложений, главное из которых представляет собой полноценный органайзер для повседневной работы, располагающий:
— календарем-планировщиком (Date Book);
— телефонной записной книжкой (Address);
— списком дел (To Do List);
— блокнотом для заметок (Memo Pad);
— блокнотом для быстрых заметок с функцией рисования (Note Pad).
Помимо этого, в Palm Desktop интегрировано приложение, позволяющее закачивать программы на КПК. В процессе установки этой утилиты, на настольный компьютер инсталлируется специальный пакет HotSync Manager, обеспечивающий максимально грамотную синхронизацию при изменении данных на настольном компьютере либо на КПК.
Также к HotSync можно подключать внешние модули — так называемые кондуиты, они отвечают за синхронизацию программ сторонних фирм.
Palm Desktop может работать с такими форматами файлов, как .PRC, .WMV, .DAT, .ABA, .DBA, .VCF.
Большая часть нововведений, реализованных в последней версии данной программы, касается необходимости обеспечения совместимости с новыми моделями КПК. Также разработчиками были добавлены новые поля в контактах: адрес web-ресурса, день рождения, IM.
Кроме этого, увеличилось количество полей для номеров телефонов, E-mail, появилось поле фотографии. Теперь настольная часть блокнота имеет границу размера заметки — 32 кб. Что касается задач, появилась возможность их повторения.
Новые поля синхронизируются исключительно с равнозначными полями приложений КПК.
Устройства поддерживают и предыдущие версии данной программы, однако новые области Palm Desktop с ними не синхронизируются.
В Palm Desktop великолепно реализована служба оповещений. Для ее тонкой настройки на настольном компьютере используется вкладка Alarms. Данная служба может работать в 3-х режимах, для выбора каждого из них существуют соответствующие переключатели:
— Always available — функционирует постоянно, оповещения активны, даже когда программа не запущена, но компьютер работает;
— Available only when the Palm Desktop is running — оповещения появляются, если приложение запущено;
— Disabled — система оповещений отключена.
Вкладка Alarms располагает и другими опциями, которые позволяют настроить «поведение» сработавших оповещений — включить/выключить вывод диалоговых окон, проигрывание звуков, задать собственное звуковое сопровождение.
Palm Desktop is a useful program for Windows designed with the purpose of synchronizing various Palm devices with your computer. With the help of this utility, you can create backups of your data in case it gets lost or damaged. In addition, you have the ability to automatically update the information that has changed on your device.
Overview
For operations to be successfully carried out, a supported Palm device needs to be connected to a computer with an installation of Palm Desktop. The Sync function is started by default once you deploy the application. You can set it to affect only the areas you want, such as to-do lists, multimedia content, documents and more.
Layout and functionality
The program features a streamlined graphical user interface, where all the features are neatly categorized into different menus and categories. First, there is the tasks section. Here, you can explore scheduled events in several viewing modes, including by day, week, month and year.
It is necessary to note that you can navigare memos and media files in a similar way. In addition, it is possible to add new items and remove or edit existing ones. If you want to plan your plan and execute various actions on your PC at a specified time, you may use a tool like Task Scheduler.

Notes:
Do not un-install previous versions of the Palm Desktop. If you have an existing version of Palm Desktop on your computer, leave it as-is and install version 4.1 on top of it.
