• Q: Do I need to make a backup of my build lists before updating to new version?
• A: Your build lists are automatically backed-up during installation with MOO2 Launcher. They can be retrieved in directory ‘150-backups’.
   
• Q. MOO2 Launcher runs but fails to install with ‘permission denied’ error.
• Q. MOO2 Launcher runs but cannot locate game files on your system.
• A: This happens if the destination is write-protected, for example for CD-rom version installed to Program Files. Make MOO2 directory accessible or move the game to an accessible location, like C:\GAMES\MOO2. In some cases you can workaround the issue by running MOO2 Launcher as an administrator, but you’ll have to do it every time you run it, so that’s not recommended. This problem doesn’t affect Steam and GOG packages even though Steam installs to Program Files.
   
• Q. MOO2 Launcher runs but fails to install with ‘Error creating backup’.
• A: This can happen when an instance of Windows Explorer is open that has focus on a directory or file inside the MOO2 game directory. Close the Explorer.
• A: This can also happen if you have a previous version MOO2 Launcher still running. Make sure you have that MOO2 Launcher closed before updating.
   
• Q. DOSBox crashes immediately after starting.
• A: Try setting output to ‘surface’.
   
• Q. Game doesn’t start, cannot find info.lbx, credits.lbx and diplomse.lbx.
• A: This happens when the game is installed from an original CD-rom. To fix it, copy all files from CD-rom to e.g. C:\GAMES\MOO2, remove read-only attribute from all files, then install patch 1.31, then install patch 1.50. The order of actions is important, install 1.31 after you copied the cd-rom files.
   
• Q. Music plays, but no sound effects.
• A: You need to make the file sound.lbx writable. On Windows right-click it, choose properties, remove read-only checkbox.
   
• Q. Game interface lags, sound is crackling.
• A: May happen on Ubuntu with opengl output. Try ‘overlay’.
   
• Q. How to edit DOSBox options not accessible via MOO2 Launcher?
• A: Edit file 150/dosbox.conf in the game directory. Note that the settings in this file override MOO2 Launcher settings, so if you e.g. force resolution there, changing it in MOO2 Launcher will no longer work.
   
• Q. I want the game to run in 16:9 mode.
• A: The game was designed for 4:3 monitors. In DOSBox windowed mode you can only have that. In full screen your monitor handles whether to stretch to maximum resolution, explore its OSD to figure out how to do it. Note that you will never have a true 16:9 picture, the game uses a fixed resolution and in 16:9 everything will look stretched.
   
• Q. I’m trying to create custom BUILD lists but editing the 150\build\build*.cfg files doesn’t do anything. The original BUILD lists are still loaded.
• A: You have edited the wrong files. Open the BUILD lists from MOO2 Launcher’s menu ‘Game>Build lists’ to make sure the correct files are edited.
   
• Q. I cannot design ships. The buttons are greyed out.
• A: You need to select the «Tactical Combat» option when you start the game.
   
• Q. I toggled Ship Initiative setting in the Game Settings menu, but it had no effect in combat and afterwards the setting was changed back. I am sure this fan patch is bugged!
• A: Ship Initiative is set with a parameter in the mod that you are playing. This parameter overrides the setting in the Game Settings menu.

Method 1: Fixing the DLL Error by Copying the Moo2.dll Library to the Windows System Directory 

1. The file you are going to download is a compressed file with the «.zip» extension. You cannot directly install the «.zip» file. First, you need to extract the dynamic link library from inside it. So, double-click the file with the «.zip» extension that you downloaded and open the file.
2. You will see the library named «Moo2.dll» in the window that opens up. This is the library we are going to install. Click the library once with the left mouse button. By doing this you will have chosen the library.
3. Click the «Extract To» symbol marked in the picture. To extract the dynamic link library, it will want you to choose the desired location. Choose the «Desktop» location and click «OK» to extract the library to the desktop. In order to do this, you need to use the Winrar program. If you do not have this program, you can find and download it through a quick search on the Internet.
4. Copy the «Moo2.dll» library file you extracted.
5. Paste the dynamic link library you copied into the «C:\Windows\System32» directory.
6. If you are using a 64 Bit operating system, copy the «Moo2.dll» library and paste it into the «C:\Windows\sysWOW64» as well.
   

   NOTE! On Windows operating systems with 64 Bit architecture, the dynamic link library must be in both the «sysWOW64» directory as well as the «System32» directory. In other words, you must copy the «Moo2.dll» library into both directories.

   

7. In order to run the Command Line as an administrator, complete the following steps.
   

   NOTE! In this explanation, we ran the Command Line on Windows 10. If you are using one of the Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista or Windows XP operating systems, you can use the same methods to run the Command Line as an administrator. Even though the pictures are taken from Windows 10, the processes are similar.

   1. First, open the Start Menu and before clicking anywhere, type «cmd» but do not press Enter.
   2. When you see the «Command Line» option among the search results, hit the «CTRL» + «SHIFT» + «ENTER» keys on your keyboard.
   3. A window will pop up asking, «Do you want to run this process?«. Confirm it by clicking to «Yes» button.

   

8. Paste the command below into the Command Line that will open up and hit Enter. This command will delete the damaged registry of the Moo2.dll library (It will not delete the file we pasted into the System32 directory; it will delete the registry in Regedit. The file we pasted into the System32 directory will not be damaged).
   

   %windir%\System32\regsvr32.exe /u Moo2.dll

   

9. If you are using a 64 Bit operating system, after doing the commands above, you also need to run the command below. With this command, we will also delete the Moo2.dll library’s damaged registry for 64 Bit (The deleting process will be only for the registries in Regedit. In other words, the dll file you pasted into the SysWoW64 folder will not be damaged at all).

10. You must create a new registry for the dynamic link library that you deleted from the registry editor. In order to do this, copy the command below and paste it into the Command Line and hit Enter.
    

    %windir%\System32\regsvr32.exe /i Moo2.dll

    

11. Windows 64 Bit users must run the command below after running the previous command. With this command, we will create a clean and good registry for the Moo2.dll library we deleted.
    

    %windir%\SysWoW64\regsvr32.exe /i Moo2.dll

    

12. If you did the processes in full, the installation should have finished successfully. If you received an error from the command line, you don’t need to be anxious. Even if the Moo2.dll library was installed successfully, you can still receive error messages like these due to some incompatibilities. In order to test whether your dll issue was fixed or not, try running the program giving the error message again. If the error is continuing, try the 2nd Method to fix this issue.

Method 4: Fixing the Moo2.dll error with the Windows System File Checker 

1. In order to run the Command Line as an administrator, complete the following steps.
   

   NOTE! In this explanation, we ran the Command Line on Windows 10. If you are using one of the Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista or Windows XP operating systems, you can use the same methods to run the Command Line as an administrator. 3. The scan and repair process can take some time depending on your hardware and amount of system errors. Wait for the process to complete. After the repair process finishes, try running the program that is giving you’re the error.
