Media files come in types and what you need to enjoy some will be completely different from what you need for others. Some media files can be run easily while some require dedicated decoders and tools to get them going. As a result of this, it is inevitable for everyone trying to enjoy and get the best out of their media files to rely on certain tools in the process. One of such tools is this software program that is under review. It is a powerful utility that boasts of a list of DirectShow media filters which are created to allow users to play almost all available media file formats. Some of the media filters that this software package features include Windows Media Player, BS.Player and a host of others.
A lot of contemporary media players come with an inbuilt codec that works perfectly with most types of media files. However, some media files require more complex codecs to be able to enjoy them and this is what this software program offers. Loading…DirectShow FilterPack is a short set of filters (decoders) that will allow you to play different music and video formats. Initially, you can already play MP3 music, because Fraunhofer MP3 decoder is installed together with Windows.
But unlike MP3 files, Windows doesn’t know how to handle Vorbis audio, for example. With OGG Splitter (plus FFDShow), Windows can handle Vorbis Audio.
This filter package was designed to work with FFDShow. FFDShow is a very powerful DirectShow filter for audio and video decompression, such as DivX / XviD and Vorbis / AAC, but it can also do much more. Thus, you can install a single DirectShow FilterPack, instead of some other filter packages that install more than one filter for the same purpose.
DirectShow FilterPack simplifies media playback by enabling Windows to handle various music and video formats through a single installation.
DirectShow can be used as a media player;Zoom Player, RadLight, The Core Media Player, Windows Media Player, and Media Player Classic (MPC). (Note: This does not apply to Win AMP or XMPlay as this plugin is based as a media player.) (Note: «I do not mean Media Player Classic (MPC) as most of these Splitter filters are already integrated into the MPC.)

DirectShow FilterPack is a lightweight collection of filters which allows you to play the most popular multimedia formats.
These filters are essential if you want to play your video and audio contents using media players based on DirectShow, such as Windows Media Player, Zoom Player or BS.Player.
DirectShow FilterPack only allows you to play and decode audio and video files, and it cannot be used for encoding or creating multimedia files with it.
Unlike similar packs, DirectShow FilterPack doesn’t come with an included media player and it doesn’t cause conflicts between various codecs and filters.
You just need to install it to your computer and you will be able to play almost anything.
The installation process is fast and simple; DirectShow FilterPack works on Windows XP or Windows 7 and it requires DirectX End-User Runtimes.
DirectShow FilterPack contains the following tools:
— the BASS Source Filter 1.3.0.0 which decodes Tracker Audio (MO3, IT, XM, S3M, MTM, MOD and UMX), OptimFROG Audio (OFR) and SHOUTcast/Icecast audio streams (MP3, AAC, OGG); Livio Cavallo — TAK Source Filter 0.0.1.6 needed for Tom’s verlustfreier Audiokompressor files (TAK); Hendrik Leppkes — LAV Filters 0.48.0.0 (FFmpeg based DirectShow filters which support all the popular audio and video file formats); MPC-HC Team — CDDA Source Filter 1.6.1.4116, which reads Audio CDs; MPC-HC Team — CDXA Source Filter 1.6.1.4116 for (S)VCDs and XCDs and Softella — DirectShow Filter Manager 0.5.0.260, an utility which helps listing, sorting, finding, adding or removing DirectShow filters.
The last version of DirectShow FilterPack was 5.1, released in 2012 and it was announced that this would be the last release. DirectShow FilterPack remains a reliable, “no-nonsense” application that does exactly what it promises: offering you the tools you need to play the most common media formats error-free.
How to install/remove DirectShow FilterPack:
* Installation
— Extract «DSFP-5.1.exe» to a logical place. (If you pick «C:\Program Files» for example, the whole content will be extracted to «C:\Program Files\DirectShow FilterPack».)
— Browse to the directory you just extracted the whole content to.
— Run «DSFP_inst.bat». (In every subdirectory you’ll also find an «install.bat» and «uninstall.bat» to install or uninstall every filter separately.)
* Removal
— Browse to the «DirectShow FilterPack» directory.
— Run «DSFP_uninst.bat».
— Delete the «DirectShow FilterPack» directory.
