QNAP NAS does not appear at Network

After updating my windows 10 to 1809, suddenly QNAP NAS icon does not appear at ‘Network’.
I can only see my own PC’s icon there.

I have tried to find solutions for these, since there seems like quite a number of persons experiencing the same, however no one’s solution fixed mine.

My QNAP settings:
— QNAP is set to a static IP 192.168.1.60
— Enable WS-Discovery
— HIghest SMB: SMB v3
— Lowest SMB: SMB v1

My Windows programs and features settings:
— SMB 1.0/CIFS automatic removal ON
— SMB 1.0/CIFS Client ON
— SMB 1.0/CIFS Server ON

ping test to the nas worked fine. I can access the NAS through cmd, start \\qnap.
How do I make the qnap icon at network appear again?

Did you try rebooting your qnap, your router and your pc? usually this may sometimes solve the problem.

did you use qfinder? does it detect?

If yes, what happens when you try open explorer via qfinder. does it work?

if not, then go start and type credential manager. check if you have an entry there for your NAS. if there is none add one.

once done, go qfinder explorer and check again.

if still not working, maybe check your firewall that you did not accidentally block.

or it could even be a misconfiguration on your NAS, so a soft reset 1 beep may do the trick?

why not just mount the shares as network drives ?

I have already mount some of my frequently used shares as network drives, however I also have many shares that I do not frequently access that I wish to access easily when I need it from file explorer -> network. This is how it should be and have been, before the update.

I have rebooted windows pc, nas, and router. Nas still does not appear.

Do i really need to download qfinder? I can access the nas through command prompt, start \\qnap — no problem.

I have checked credential manager, yes it have an entry there for my NAS. I tried deleting it, restart pc, then after restart when I want to access my mounted share drive, windows asks for username password, after re-entering I can go the share drive fine, however qnap icon still does not appear at ‘network’ like how it should be.

I have checked windows defender firewall, firewall is on, and NETWORK DISCOVERY — private, is Checked. (I am on Private).

afaik, to mount qnap as network drive, you use qfinder. in the option there is a mount as network drive option.

there may be a way to do it without qfinder, but i don’t know that method :X

so if mounting is not the issue, then just open a file explorer and type //NASNAME or //NASIP in the search bar .. and it will enumerate all shares

I don’t understand, what I am looking for is a solution to make windows as easy as possible. What I needed was a HELP, not a guide to something I already knew.

With a modern car with a Start/Stop button, why the need to go open the trunk and do a cable jumper procedure? :'

Hi again :)
I have installed Qfinder. It found my NAS without problem, and when I right click on the NAS, there is an option to map network drive, unfortunately this is not what I am looking for.
I have already mapped some of my ‘shares’ as a drive, and what I am looking for is for the whole NAS (parent) to appear in File Explorer > Network.

ahh

ty for clarifying what you mean’t.

i belive what dolby said is what you require

then just open a file explorer and type //NASNAME or //NASIP in the search bar .. and it will enumerate all shares

this is basically the same thing i suggested but using qfinder. via qfinder when your select the «explore» it also does the same thing.

So you can do the same thing without needing qfinder, but for newbies who don’t know to type, the qfinder approach is simplest. even when i do know, i still use qfinder for that it’s very convenient.

I also setup shortcuts to that target as well e.g.

or something more specific like

Code: Select all

\\192.168.0.210\Storage\Videos\Anime

anyway… if you open the explorer it should work…. but usually when it doesn’t then i only know a few reasons for this

1. qnap ip changed. but you said ur using a fix ip so i don’t think this is it
2. a av/firewall is blocking (it’s happened to me in the past)
3. windows credential manager (i notice that when you don’t get a prompt, and explorer didn’t detect the qnap, then going to credential manager and adding an entry then testing again would usually fix the qnap being detected for explorer)

this is as much as i know :( any of it help?

extra tip:

You can define how your root shows up in explorer. in qts you can go to shared folders > folder aggregation, then setup portal folders. Personally i don’t use that as i’m fine with the default (which just shows all the existing shares when i go to \\NAS IP )

If you can’t see your QNAP NAS on your network, there are a few things you can try:

1. Check that your NAS is connected to your network.

2. Check that your NAS is turned on.

3. Check that your NAS has an IP address assigned to it.

4. Check that your computer is on the same network as your NAS.

5. Check that your computer’s firewall is not blocking access to your NAS.

6. Try accessing your NAS using its IP address.

If you still can’t see your NAS, please contact QNAP support for further assistance.

How do I access QNAP NAS in Windows 10?

Why is my NAS not showing on my network?

There are a few possible reasons why your NAS might not be appearing on your network. First, make sure that it is properly connected to your router and that all cables are secure. Next, check to see if your NAS is turned on and that all the lights are functioning properly. Finally, try restarting your NAS and see if that solves the problem. If none of these solutions work, then you may need to contact your NAS manufacturer for further assistance.

How do I find qnap on my network?

There are a few ways to find your QNAP device on your network. The first way is to check your router’s DHCP client list. This will show you all of the devices that are connected to your router. Another way is to use a network scanning tool like Nmap. This will scan your network for all devices that are online. Finally, you can check your QNAP device’s web interface to see its IP address.

How do I make my network NAS visible?

There are a few steps you can take to make your network attached storage (NAS) more visible:

1. Use a NAS that has a web interface. This will allow you to access your NAS from any web browser, making it more visible to you and any potential intruders.

2. Use a NAS that supports Active Directory. This will allow you to integrate your NAS with your existing network security infrastructure, making it more visible to you and any potential intruders.

3. Use a NAS that supports encryption. This will help to protect your data in the event that your NAS is compromised, making it more difficult for an attacker to access your data.

4. Use a NAS that supports two-factor authentication. This will help to protect your data in the event that your NAS is compromised, making it more difficult for an attacker to access your data.

5. Use a NAS that supports a firewall. This will help to protect your NAS from potential attacks, making it more difficult for an attacker to access your NAS.

How do I connect QNAP directly to PC NAS?

There are a few different ways that you can connect your QNAP NAS directly to your PC. The most common way is to use an Ethernet cable to connect the two devices together. You can also use a USB cable to connect the NAS to your PC.

How do I access QNAP NAS in Windows Explorer?

To access your QNAP NAS in Windows Explorer, simply enter the IP address or hostname of your NAS into the address bar. You can also map a network drive to your NAS to make it even easier to access. For more detailed instructions, please see the QNAP helpdesk.

Why can’t I see my mapped network drives?

There could be a few reasons why you cannot see your mapped network drives. First, check to make sure that the network drive is actually mapped. You can do this by going to My Computer and looking for the network drive under the Network Locations heading. If it is not mapped, you will need to map it by right-clicking on the network drive and selecting Map Network Drive.

If the network drive is mapped, the next thing to check is the permissions. Make sure that you have the correct permissions to access the network drive. If you do not have the correct permissions, you will need to contact your network administrator to request access.

Finally, if you are still having trouble accessing the network drive, it is possible that there is a problem with the network itself. If this is the case, you will need to contact your network administrator for further assistance.

Why can’t I see other computers on my network Windows 10?

There are a few potential reasons why you might not be able to see other computers on your network.

First, make sure that all of the computers on your network are connected to the same router or switch. If they are not, they will not be able to see each other on the network.

Second, check to see if all of the computers on the network have the same workgroup name. By default, Windows 10 computers are set to the «WORKGROUP» workgroup. If any of the computers on the network have a different workgroup name, they will not be able to see each other.

Third, make sure that the network discovery and file sharing settings are turned on for all of the computers on the network. Network discovery and file sharing can be turned on in the «Network and Sharing Center» control panel.

If you are still having trouble seeing other computers on your network, you can try restarting the network discovery and file sharing services on all of the computers. To do this, open the «Services» control panel and scroll down to the «Function Discovery Resource Publication» and «Function Discovery Provider Host» services. Restart both of these services and then try to see if the other computers

2. Once you’re logged in, go to the «Network» or «Network Settings» section.

3. Here you should see your QNAP IP address listed.

4. If you’re using a third-party tool like Angry IP Scanner, simply launch the tool and scan your network. The QNAP IP address should be listed in the results.

How do I find the IP address of my NAS?

There are a few ways to find the IP address of your NAS.

1. Check the documentation that came with your NAS. Many NAS devices will have the IP address listed in the documentation.

2. If you can’t find the IP address in the documentation, you can try connecting to the NAS using a web browser. To do this, enter the NAS’s IP address into the web browser’s address bar.

3. If you still can’t find the IP address, you can try using a network scanner tool such as Nmap. To use Nmap, open a terminal window and enter the following command:

  • Hello.  I have 2 laptops. One is a new purchase with Win 10 Home Edition 64 bit pre installed, the second I have just upgraded from Win 7 to the latest build of Win 10  Pro 64 bit thru the Windows Insider program, Build 14372.  Both laptops
    are running Build 14372 now.

My problem is that I have a Qnap NAS unit that I can map successfully to both machines.  On the pre installed new laptop, everything works fine.

On the upgraded laptop, I can map the drives successfully.  I see the drives and can access them thru File manager, and many applications. However, I have 3 applications — granted they are old versions no longer supported by their vendors — that do
    not see the mapped drives.

I know that it is not a problem with the applications since they work just fine on the new machine (unless there is something unique between the Home and Pro editions of Win 10 that would cause this).  I have read the other posts about problems with
mapped drives but do not believe that they are my problems since I can map the drives but the issue is with specific applications, although I did go thru some suggestions posted — updating Regedit, etc.

I have attempted deinstalling the software products, unmapping the NAS mounts, rebooting, remapping and then reinstalling the software but still have the same issue that it cannot see the directories from the application.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Please turn off the firewall temporarily at the same time. Restart the «Function Discovery Provider Host» service.

Please input the username and password and remember the credentials to have a troubleshoot.

Try to pin the network drive to the «Quick Access» bar of Windows Explorer to have a test.

Try the following command line to disable SMB 3.0 to have a troubleshoot(SMB 2.0 will be disabled, too).
    sc.exe config lanmanworkstation depend= bowser/mrxsmb10/nsi
    sc.exe config mrxsmb20 start= disabled

    sc.exe config lanmanworkstation depend= bowser/mrxsmb10/mrxsmb20/nsi

  1. На Диске слева щелкните Общие диски.
  2. В правом верхнем углу нажмите Скрытые общие диски.
  3. Щелкните правой кнопкой мыши общий диск, который нужно снова отобразить, и выберите «Показать общий диск».

  • Since upgrading to Windows 10 on all 8 of my computers, Network Discovery does not automatically discover my NAS drive. It also randomly will work on any number of computers at any given time and then stop working a different day. There’s no rhyme or reason.
We do have a MAC in the network and it sees all drives and computers with no issue. We’ve read all forums and setting changes with no prevail, please help. Small business owner and it’s been a disappointing upgrade when trying to access our share folders,
    i.e. NAS drive.
