Microsoft announced that the Windows 10 free upgrade offer ended on December 31. As a quick reminder, the Redmond giant initially introduced this loophole to allow assistive technology users to upgrade Windows 7 to Windows 10 for free in 2023.

1. Activate Windows 10 using a Windows 7 key

You’re still able to upgrade to Windows 10, as long as you have Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 running on your PC. Bear in mind that you’ll need to run a genuine copy on your PC in order for this process to work.

In addition to the genuine copy of Windows, it’s also a good idea to have your product key available since you might need it to activate Windows 10.

2. Accept the terms of service and select Upgrade this PC now option.
3. You’ll be asked to download the important updates. Usually, it’s advised to download them, but if you’re in a hurry you can choose Not right now
4. Windows will now configure your PC and get the necessary updates.
5. Follow the instructions on the screen until you reach the Ready to install screen. Click Change what to keep
6. Now you can choose between three options. We suggest using Keep personal files and apps option, but you can also select Nothing if you want to completely remove the previous Windows installation.
7. Now follow the instructions on the screen to complete the upgrade process.

After doing that, you should have Windows 10 up and running. To make sure that everything is in order, check if your Windows installation is activated. If not, use your Windows 7 serial number to activate it.

3. Use an Installation Media

Alternatively, you can create an installation media and use it instead. To do that, follow these steps:

1. Start the Windows Media Creation Tool
2. Select Create installation media (USB flash drive, DVD, or ISO file) for another PC and click Next.
3. Make sure that Use the recommended options for this PC option is selected.
   • If you want to manually configure language, edition, and architecture, you can uncheck it. Click Next to proceed.
4. Make sure that your USB flash drive is connected to your PC. Select the drive from the list and click Next.
5. The process will now start.

Once the process is finished, you can boot from the USB flash drive and try to install Windows again. Be sure to use your Windows 7 or 8.1 key during the installation process.

We’re pretty sure that Microsoft will support this free upgrade offer for years to come. The company made it clear that it wants as many users as possible to jump on the Windows 10 boat.

However, making them pay $119 to install the latest Windows 10 OS is not the best strategy to adopt.

Here’s a catch: Microsoft initially said that the offer would expire on January 16, 2018.

Somehow that happened only in theory. In practice, the upgrade has always been free or charge.

Allowing this free upgrade loophole to exist increases the chances that more users will agree to upgrade — and Microsoft is aware of that.

It was proved that all Windows users could take advantage of this loophole to upgrade to Windows 10 at no cost.

Of course, some said that Microsoft had been aware of this fact from the very beginning and used it as an incentive to convince more users to install the latest Windows 10 version.

Воспользоваться ей может любой владелец лицензионной версии Windows 7 и Windows 8.1, чтобы обзавестись легальной «десяткой», пишет Windows Latest.

Достаточно просто скачать утилиту Media Creation Tool с официального сайта Microsoft, запустить ее и выбрать пункт «Обновить этот компьютер сейчас», после чего нажать на кнопку «Принять» и выбрать вариант обновления с сохранением файлов и других данных.

После того как установка завершится, достаточно открыть раздел «Активация» в центре обновлений и нажать кнопку «Активировать». Если автоматическая активация не сработала, понадобится вручную ввести ключ активации Windows 7.

Доля Windows 7 продолжает неуклонно снижаться. Если говорить о геймерах, то здесь больше 95% уже пересели на более новую операционную систему. В то же время, по некоторым данным, устаревшая ОС занимает не менее 20% рынка. Аналитики заявляют, что это как правило пользователи, которые по каким-либо причинам не могут перейти на Windows 10. Единственным условием, появившимся после 14 января 2020 года, будет наличие у пользователя лицензионной копии, в любом другом случае рассчитывать на бесплатный переход не стоит. Ниже перечислены действия, которые вам необходимо проделать для получения Windows 10.

По ссылке доступна утилита Media Creation Tool. Её нужно скачать, нажав на надпись «скачать средство сейчас». Принимаем все условия лицензии, кликнув на пункт «обновить этот ПК сейчас». Далее вас ждёт простая установка со сканированием вашей ОС на предмет совместимости оборудования с новой операционкой

Существует несколько вариантов обновления, от чистой установки, которая затрёт все пользовательские файлы, до сохранения наиболее важного ПО, со всеми настройками, включая документы, браузер и многое другое. Эксперты советуют обратить внимание на то, когда вы устанавливали свою ОС. Если это случилось недавно, то можно выбрать второй путь, если же ваша ОС не обновлялась годами, то только первый вариант. 

Эксперт Microsoft уточнил, что получить новую ОС могут только владельцы Windows 7 и Windows 8.1. Если у вас установлена Windows 8, обновите её до версии 8.1 штатными средствами, а после запустите утилиту. Кроме того, ваша лицензия не приравнивается до оригинальной Windows 10. Microsoft не поясняет, как восстановить ОС, если она выйдет из строя. Если у вас целый штат компьютеров, то лучше воспользоваться услугами специалиста, который сделает копию операционной системы на специальном образе.

Компания Microsoft намерена прекратить поддержку Windows 7 для физических лиц 14 января 2020 года. Пользователь Reddit — CokeRobot, который представился как сотрудник корпорации, сообщил о возможности обновления Windows 7 и 8.1 до Windows 10 без дополнительной платы. Апгрейд ОС на подобных условиях пользователи могли совершить до декабря 2017 года.

Для перехода на Windows 10 владельцам активированных 7 и 8.1 версий системы потребуется воспользоваться утилитой Media Creation Tool. Официальное обновление Windows обойдется пользователям в $120.

CokeRobot сообщил, что для получения доступа к обновлению необходимо изменить настройки времени на любом устройстве с официальной ОС от Microsoft. Он отметил, что компания знает о лазейке и не намерена с этим ничего делать, так как продажа Windows перестала быть основной статьей доходов Microsoft. Основную прибыль корпорация получает с распространения офисных программ, к примеру пакета Office 365, заявил инсайдер.

Для обновления ОС пользователь Reddit приложил инструкцию.

• Необходимо перейти на страницу загрузки Windows 10 и нажать на кнопку «Скачать средство сейчас».
• Запустить Media Creation Tool.
• Если утилита уже установлена на устройстве, нужно нажать на кнопку «Обновить сейчас».
• Если обновление требуется не на том устройстве, с которого осуществлен вход, то надо кликнуть на «Создать установочный носитель для другого ПК».
• Затем программа предложит поместить установочные файлы на флеш-накопитель USB или файл ISO.
• Далее надо перенести файлы на обновляемый ПК.

Инсайдер сообщает, что Microsoft, вероятно, оставила возможность обновления в качестве маркетингового хода. Поддержка Windows 7 для корпоративных клиентов продлится до января 2023 года, и большинство компаний не спешат переходить на последнюю версию ОС даже на безвозмездных условиях.

В ноябре Microsoft анонсировала новую сборку Windows 10. Версия 2004 содержит ряд исправлений, но не включает свежие функциональные решения. Сборка станет доступна для пользователей в начале 2020 года.
