MarkdownPad 2
MarkdownPad 2 is one of the best markdown editors available for Windows. It gives you the ease of writing in markdown language without any issue. The hot keys available on the tool bar lets you add markdown syntax to your document just by a simple click. These hot keys offer the most used markdown syntax, like: Bold, Italics, Headings (H1, H2, H3, etc.), Hyperlink, Upper case, Lower case, Time stamp, and Brackets. As you write your document, this markdown editor displays a real time preview of the document. If you are having trouble putting up a syntax on your document then worry not, go to Help>Documentation and click on Markdown Extra Syntax Guide, or Standard Markdown Syntax Guide. These two documents include all the important markdown syntax that you will need.
You can save your document as .MD, .Markdown, .MDown, and .TXT. There’s this option to copy the whole text in HTML formatting under the Edit Menu. You can export the document to HTML as well. Go to File Menu and click the export as HTML option.

There are no options on the UI except tiny details on the bottom right corner, which displays the Word count, and the current time. This freeware totally operates on short-cut keys. Press F1 to view the list of keyboard shortcuts. The shortcut page also displays a bunch of markdown syntax. Link to more syntax, including Textile syntax are available on the help page as well. When you are done editing a document, you can export it as HTML, or preview it to print a copy of your document. Press Ctrl+Shift+E to access export options. The three export options available are:
- Print from Preview: Preview your document in a printable format. Take a printout instantly.
- Export to default web browser: Exports your markdown document as HTML to view it on the default web browser.
- Export to MS Word: View the HTML version of your document in MS Word.
The other export options are: Include CSS style sheet template, Export file to a folder, Export as a temporary file, and Export inline comments.
Right click on the editor to view a list of options. This list includes options like: Jumps, Lookup, Export, Bookmark, Symbols, Copy as HTML, Copy as RTF, Spell Check, etc.
You may also add plugins to this markdown editor, but it is not available for free. You need to donate some amount to be able to access the plugin feature.

Apply Text Formatting, Insert Images, Insert Tables, and much more. Click on the Extras to access features like: math support and check spelling. A document can be saved in .MD, .Markdown, and . MDown formats. The document can be previewed and exported in both HTML and PDF formats.
Markdown Edit
Markdown Edit is a promising markdown editor for Windows. It is an Open Source markdown editor, loaded with many interesting features. The most interesting feature of this freeware is, that it can convert HTML to Markdown and convert DOCX to Markdown. This feature also works if you drag and drop files here. As you write or edit a document on the left side of the UI, you can view the live preview on the right in real time.
This markdown editor supports almost all markdown syntax, including CommonMark and GitHub Markdown. It also has a long list of keyboard shortcuts, which you can view by pressing F1 key. When you are done with your document, you can save it in .MD and HTML formats. You can also export the HTML of the document to clipboard. The word count, and spell check are basic options, and prove out to be advantageous.
Qute
Qute is a multi platform markdown editor for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. Along with Markdown, it also supports TeX. It provides a simple and distraction free UI to write documents. Switch between full mode and preview mode to view how your document looks with markdown syntax. You can save your document in TXT format. Go to the Menu>Publish to access the options to Print, Copy source as TXT/HTML, and Export as HTML/LaTex/PDF.
Go to Config menu to be able to change the theme, and font. There are 9 different themes to choose from; all of these themes are simple and distraction free.
MdCharm
MdCharm is another good open source markdown editor. This cross platform markdown editor is available for Windows and Linux. This freeware supports Markdown extra and MultiMarkdown. You can preview your markdown document while you write it through the Live Preview option. This feature rich markdown editor provides options like: Custom CSS, Line Numbers, Multiple Tabs, multiple Export options, etc. If you are not sure of the markdown syntax, you can always view the Markdown extra cheat sheet from the Help tool bar.
Export documents as HTML, PDF, or ODT. There are a bunch of keyboard shortcuts available; go to Setting menu to view the shortcuts.

GhostWriter is a simple and light markdown editor. It use double screen: the left screen is the editor, and the right screen show the rendered file. Allows many different syntax: GitHub, Sundown, pandoc, common mark, multimarkdown, php markdown extra, and strict. The right screen will shows the file rendered using the selected syntax.
The editor includes more options, as ortographic check, format… etc.

2] Haroopad
Haroopad is a free Markdown file editor software that lets you edit a Markdown file and save it in different formats. The left pane of this tool lets you edit a Markdown file and the right pane displays the real-time preview of the output file.
If you want, you can also swap both of these panes. For this, access the Mode option under the View menu and select the desired option. All the options required to edit a Markdown file are available in the Insert menu.
After you finish editing a Markdown file, you can save it in Markdown format or export it in Plain HTML and Style HTML formats. In addition, you can also email the MD file in HTML and Markdown formats.

3] MdCharm
MdCharm is another free Markdown editor software for Windows OS. By default, it displays both editor and viewer modes, but if you want, you can disable any one of them. You can open multiple Markdown files in different tabs and start editing separately which is a good feature.
It also has a Spell Check tool available on the toolbar. Once you are done with editing, you can use that tool to find spelling mistakes and correct them.
Finally, you can save the Markdown file in original format, or export it in HTML, PDF, and ODT format files.

CuteMarkEd tool also comes with a built-in Spell-Check tool to find and correct spelling mistakes. Like most of the Markdown editing tools present on this list, it also displays a real-time preview of the MD file.

5] MARKDOWN EDIT
MARKDOWN EDIT is a very simple tool. It also has a Spell Check tool that supports spell checking in more than 10 languages, including, English, French, Italian, Danish, German, etc. By default, this feature remains enabled, but you can disable it in Settings.
There are some other interesting features also present in editor panel settings such as Word Wrap, Auto Save, Show, and Hide Line Numbers, Show and Hide Tasks, Remember Cursor Position, etc.

6] Ghostwriter
Ghostwriter is a portable software that edits a Markdown file and displays the statistics for the same. These statistics include:
- Number of words
- Number of characters
- Total number of sentences
- Percentage of complex words
- Reading time, etc.
For every Markdown file, it displays three panes, outline pane, editor pane, and viewer pane. The outline pane provides the users with a facility to quickly jump to a particular line or instruction in the input Markdown file.
It also has a Spell Check tool. In addition to this, Ghostwriter also features the Find and Replace option. When you feel the strain on your eyes while editing the file, you can also enable the dark mode, which I like a lot.

MarkPad is a free Windows 11/10 app that lets you edit a Markdown file. It is available at the Microsoft Store. You can open multiple Markdown files in this app and edit them.
You can access all the opened documents from the left pane. It also displays both editor and viewer panes together. Every change that you make in a Markdown file will be reflected in the viewer pane in real-time.
By default, the controls are hidden in this app. To view the controls, click on the three horizontal lines on the top left side and select the App commands option. Alternatively, you can right-click on the empty space to bring the control buttons, like Open, Save, New, etc.
Where can I edit Markdown?
The Markdown files use the *.md extension. You can open these files in Microsoft Word, Notepad++, and some other text editing software. But such tools do not show you the real-time preview of the Markdown file. This may lead to errors.

Is Markdown better than Word?

Markdown is everyone. Most developers use this markup language to create documentation files regarding the app they are developing. While Markdown is mostly implemented on web as it is projected to be an alternative to HTML, you can also use Markdown on desktop. If you use Windows 10, here are some Markdown editors you can use.
Markdown itself was firstly released in 2004. It was invented by John Gruber. Unlike HTML which use complex tags to format your documents, Markdown adopts plain text formatting syntax in which much simpler.
Following are 6 of the best Markdown editors you can install on Windows 10.
1. Typora
Providing a distraction-free editor is the major purpose of Typora. You can totally focused on the Markdown document you are working on with this tool as it removes distraction elements like preview window, mode switcher and syntax symbols of markdown source code. In addition, Typora also offers a focus mode and full screen mode in case you want to really focused on the document you are working on. Caret itself adopts a tabbed interface. Every time you create a new file, a new tab will be automatically open. The interface of Caret is divided into two panels and there is no option to switch to a single panel. So, Caret is probably not the best option if you are looking for a distraction-free Markdown editor. One of the interesting features offered by Caret is auto-save. This feature is pretty useful to prevent something bad from happening due to system error, like computer suddenly restart or some similar problems.
Some other features offered by this tool are auto-completion, contact actions, assistance, inline renders and so on. Caret itself is a paid tool. You can install Caret on your Windows 10 computer and use it for several days. But for a continued use, you need to pay for the license.
3. MarkUpDown
MarkUpDown is a paid Markdown editor for Windows 10. This app is distributed via Windows Store. MarkUpDown also features a tabbed interface that allows you work on several Markdown documents in a single window. MarkUpDown will quickly turn your Markdown formatted text into formatted web pages. For pro users, MarkUpDown also features tuned in edit command which are available via keyboard shortcuts. In addition, this Markdown editor also features a built-in option to upload images to Imgur.
4. MarkdownPad
By default, MarkdownPad offers a dual-panel interface. The left panel to write your Markdown document and the right panel to preview the Markdown you are writing. You can also switch to a single panel mode if you think that working with a dual-panel interface makes you less focused. MarkdownPad itself is a freemium Markdown editor. Free version can only be used for a non-commercial use. Handy features like auto-save, PDF export and image uploader are only available on the paid version. MarkdownPad itself also offers formatting features and tabbed interface to allow you working on several Markdown documents on a single window.
5. iA Writer
iA Writer comes with a very clean interface to help you focused on the Markdown document your are working on. It will immediately hide the menu bar as you start typing. Nothing you see on the iA Writer window but your Markdown text. Preview is available in a separate window as you click the Preview option on the View menu. iA Writer itself offers only a single panel. You can turn the window of iA Writer into a full screen mode to get rid off all of the distractions when working. In addition, iA Writer also offers a paragraph as well as sentence based focus mode. 6. Markdown Edit
Markdown Edit is one of the best answers if you are looking for a free Markdown editor for Windows 10. However, it is not good enough if you don’t like a dual-panel Markdown editor.
Markdown Edit actually has a clean enough interface. The emphasis of this Markdown editor is on the content and keyboard shortcuts. That is why you will see no complex menu bar on the Markdown Edit window. You will only see several icons on the right area of the window bar area of this tool. Markdown Edit has an auto-save feature. Unfortunately, it doesn’t support multiple tabs so you can only work on a single Markdown document in a Markdown Edit window.
