What problem do you mean «make it work regularly»?
I had the problem, that the USB Axiom 61 driver kept sort of «crashing» and that FL didn’t register any midi input any more.
What helped me getting the Axiom 61 to work without «loosing connection» in FL was to download the latest driver (not Enigma software!) from
https://m-audio.com/support/drivers-search
by choosing «Series: Legacy» / «Product: Axiom 61» / OS: «Windows 7 (64-Bit) SP1 and then download and install
«Axiom 61 5.10.0.6002 (PC) 04-19-2010 Axiom Installer 1.1.1 Driver 5.10.0.6002».
This replaces the generic «USB Axiom 61» device in Windows device manager with «M-Audio Axiom 61».
Unfortunately I now have the problem, that most of the knobs, faders, etc. do nothing in FL. I guess this would only be fixable using the Enigma software by changing the configuration running on the Axiom 61, but I could not get the Enigma software running under Windows 10 64bit.

I’m now the proud owner of an M-Audio Axiom 25 controller and will be writing a few posts about this fantastic keyboard in the days to come.
The controller works with the Enigma editor/librarian. Enigma allows you to program, store and load setups for M-Audio and Evolution USB MIDI controllers. In addition to the Axiom 25 other products currently supported includes the Evolution MK-425, MK-449, MK-461, UC-33e and X-Session, as well as the M-Audio Keystation Pro 88, O2, Ozonic and Trigger Finger.
Here are some features listed on the M-Audio site:
• software parameter editor to easily alter and create memory presets
• librarian to store unlimited memory presets on hard disk
• comes with a library of VST instruments and all editable parameters
• fast and easy
• free to registered users of compatible M-Audio and Evolution products
The Enigma editor was not on the installation disc that comes with the Axiom, so if you want to use it, you’ll need to download Windows Version here and Mac version here.

A little while ago, the Enigma software that manages the preset banks for my M-Audio Axiom 25 stopped working on Windows 10. The program seems to run (it shows up in the Task Manager), but the GUI never displays. Although I don’t know the exact reason, I see that other people are reporting similar problems. It was working up until a few months ago, so I suspect the problem might be due to a recent Windows 10 update. Does anyone know how to get the Enigma software working again on Windows 10? (I’ve already tried running as admin, and all of the Windows 7 compatibility mode stuff — no luck.) Do you know if there is an alternative third-party preset editor for the Axiom 25? (seems like there would be a market for one if there are enough people still using the Axiom-25 and the M-Audio preset manager no longer works) Or know where to get the MIDI SysEx specification for the Axiom 25? If I knew that, it would be pretty easy to put together a Lua script to create/manage presets and transfer them to the keyboard over MIDI. Although I have the skills, I don’t really have the desire or time to reverse engineer the SysEx format by tweaking presets manually (one parameter at a time) and seeing how the SysEx dump changes after each parameter change. But if that’s what it takes …

I see you posted this in July of 2019. I didn’t realize it’s been that long since I last ran Enigma but here I am in 2022 and it executes and is indicated as a running process in windows but like what you experienced the GUI doesn’t display. I tried all the Windows 10 compatibility tricks but nothing worked. I might have to fire up an old laptop and put the original version of Windows 10 on it |

Update from me: I started reverse engineering the Axiom 25 SysEx, with dreams of creating a Lua script in Reaper with a GUI to control the different parameters on the Axiom. But I quickly decided that at this point in my life, time is worth more than money … So I sold the Axiom, and got two new keyboards: 1) Arturia MiniLab mkII (not the newer mkIII, which I think has fewer features). I got this because I wanted a small controller and I have lots of Arturia software, so this was a good choice. 2) Hydrasynth Explorer (love it!). This replaced an aging Korg X3 (bought in the 90’s). I do use the synth itself, but I really got it for its excellent features as a MIDI controller (polyphonic aftertouch!!!). The fact that I can configure its controls for a particular VSTi, and then save that configuration as a preset directly on the Hydrasynth (not through some external preset management software) is awesome! I am able to do much more with this than I was with the Axiom.

I actually bought an even older keyboard. The EMU Xboard 49. I liked it so much I picked up a second one. They sell for next to nothing on ebay. There is a program similar to Enigma for the Xboard to set the controller values. I really like the Axiom 61 1st gen for Hammond emulations. I have a pair of them setup on a table style keyboard stand, one above the other for dual manual organ playing. I watched this video by Kenny Gioia to figure out how to filter out pitchbend from the Axiom whose pitchweel isn’t centering correctly: BTW, people on the Cantabile forum swear by the HydraSynth for polyphonic aftertouch available in Cherry Audio’s GX-80 |
