I will try to give you some ideas to fix a common problem: I can’t open LibreOffice.
There are various reasons for which you may not be able to open the LibreOffice program that includes Calc, Writer, Impress or other components. Since the underlying hardware or functions you perform are different, it’s impossible to provide a specific solution.
That said, I can still give you some ideas or thoughts by which you can proceed to fix this typical problem.
How to Fix: Can’t Open LibreOffice.
I have listed below steps for the operating system (OS), i.e. Linux and Windows. Because troubleshooting this problem differs based on the OS.
Method 1: Try Opening in Safe Mode
- Try to open LibreOffice in safe mode to see if it works. In Windows, on the START MENU, right-click> Run and type the following (exactly as mentioned below, including the double quotes):
"%ProgramFiles%\LibreOffice\program\soffice" --safe-mode
- For Linux, open a terminal window (press CTRL+ALT+T) and run the following.
office --safe-mode
- And then hit enter.
- Now, click on
Continue in Safe Modeand see if it works. If LibreOffice opens up fine, then you can close LibreOffice. And try to open normally, i.e. via your usual shortcut or icon method. - If it doesn’t work, continue to the next step.
Method 2: Archive and Factory Reset
Open the LibreOffice in safe mode using the above Method 1.
- In the Safe Mode window, click and expand
Advanced - Click on
Archive User Profile - Select the option
Reset to Factory Settings - Choose
Reset Entire User Profile - Click on
Apply Changes and Restart.
If it opens, try to see if all your needed functions are working.
Method 3: Disable the HW Acceleration
Open the LibreOffice again in safe mode using the above Method 1.
- In the
Safe Modewindow, clickConfigure. - Then click on
Disable User Extensions - Also, click on
Disable hardware acceleration - Now, click on
Apply Changes and Restart
If you can open it, then all is good. Otherwise, follow the next step.
Method 4: Reset Shortcuts (Windows Only)
- In Windows, you may try resetting the shortcut, which may be the problem.
- Open Windows Explorer, and in the address bar, copy-paste the below path.
%ProgramData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\LibreOffice 7.0\
- You should see a list of LibreOffice shortcuts in this location.
- Try to double-click and open LibreOffice from these icons.
- If it works, right-click on the LibreOffice icon and click Send to Desktop (create shortcuts).
- Now you can try to open LibreOffice from the newly opened shortcuts.

Method 5: Kill the Running Processes (Use with Caution)
Sometimes, a running program of LibreOffice causes problems. The reason is LibreOffice may not close properly last time and hence caused the issues.
In those situations, you might see LibreOffice running as a process. So, you can try to kill the process manually and see if it opens.
- In Windows, open Task Manager. And Right-Click on any process named libreoffice or
soffice. And select thekill processoption. Then restart your Windows system and try to open it.
- For Linux, open a terminal window (CTRL+ALT+T), and run the following command.
ps -el | grep soffice
- It will give you the process number in the fourth column (see the below image).
- Then run the following command with the process ID to kill the process.
kill -9 process_id
Once it is complete, try to open LibreOffice in the usual way.
Method 6: Delete the LibreOffice Config Manually (Use with Caution)
This method is only for Linux users and is very risky. So, proceed with caution.
- Open the file manager in Linux. Go to the
/home/<username>directory. Then pressCTRL+Hto show the hidden files. - Open the
.configdirectory. - Inside this directory, you should find a folder named
LibreOffice. - Delete this folder.
Restart your system and try to open LibreOffice in the normal way.
Final Method 7: Uninstall and Re-Install
If none of the above methods works, then I can only recommend trying uninstalling the program. And download the latest version of LibreOffice from the official website and install it.
Wrapping Up
I hope the above steps help you to fix this common problem. Or at least give you an idea to proceed with the issues. If nothing works and you can afford to reinstall, then do it. Reinstalling LibreOffice hopefully solves the problem.

Плюс бодрил свой бизнес (рекламное агентство с плоттерами, каттерами и капризнющими китайклонами оборудования Kodak). Уже 4 года почти на всех этих машинах — также без единой переустановки работают разные версии Win7. При этом на компах играют, монтируют видео, пишут музыку, дизайнерят, смотрят порно (наверняка), хостят небольшие сайты-визитки — короче используют очень активно (компы мощные, с SSD и кучей периферии), и не без пиратки, конечно.
Делюсь секретом как сделать домашнюю ОСь неубиваемой на многие годы:
1) Две учетки (латиницей) с паролями, в Ограниченную — автологон с помощью Win+R — набрать control userpasswords2
Длинный пароль к админской учетке гарантирует редкое её использование. UAC включен и неотключаем. В принципе, на этом пункте можно бы и остановиться, но…
2) Антивирус — любой из бесплатных: Avast, Avira, MSE. Для работы с музыкой (realtime ASIO) — их всегда приходится «тушить» из-за DPC (системной задержки).
3) «Чистилка реестра и места», единственная из тех, которая ни разу и ни у кого не сделала хуже — CCLeaner. Просто нужно запретить менять настройки и показать как «чистить реестр» после «незаработавших» программ.

4) Точки восстановления — собираются, но надобились за эти годы всего раз пять, и то на всякий случай, поскольку работоспособность Оси не нарушалась.
5) Дефрагментация HDD по делу нужна не чаще раза в год, для SSD — она просто вредна.
6) Все остальные «твикеры» и прочее — не нужны. Лучший твик — это сетевой NAS и облака для нетленки, потому что даже я, весь такой правильный, в свое время сносил по ошибке не те разделы диска, забывать пароли к криптоконтейнерам, сохранял убитый документ «поверх», ловил SMS-вымогателя, ронял переносной HDD с заклиниванием диска намертво, терял флешки итд. И на все эти виды бед есть только одно спасение — бэкап.
По моим наблюдениям — 8 из 10 людей искренне верят что раз в 2 года винду нужно переустанавливать (а значить тратить 3-4 вечера на восстановление привычной рабочей среды). Этого можно и нужно избегать, просто не делая глупостей.
Description: When I startup LibreOffice it crashes my system to a bluescreen (see image). I recently updated from version 6.4.4.2 to 7.0.1. I uninstalled the old release and installed the new release. Now LibreOffice crashes my system everytime on startup. Steps to Reproduce: 1. The uninstaller told me that I had to close the browser or my restart my PC. I did neither. I installed the new version. The installer told me the same thing. I did not do it again. I wanted to open a file and got a crash right away. I installed new versions of LibreOffice the same way a few times before without any problems. I tried to restart/shutdown the PC to check if that helps when it does not crash for once (it does not). - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - I installed the new version on a PC with Windows 7 and I used the x64.msi installer for it. I did not try to uninstall and reinstall the programm or reset any config files yet (maybe there is somebody who has an idea for a test before I do that and it works) I obviously can't copy any version information from the programm.

I again downloaded and tested the latest update (Version: 7.0.3.1 (x64), Build ID: d7547858d014d4cf69878db179d326fc3483e082). This version also still crashes my PC I would really love to know if there is anything I can do/test for this bug.

This issue is happening to me too. This morning I was using LibreOffice like any other day. Then a few hours ago, I tried to open a .odt file that is available on my private network and this is when the first blue screen happened to me. Now every time I open LibreOffice, Windows 10 crashes. I had LibreOffice 7.0.4.2 installed on Windows 10 Home Build 19042.867. I've uninstalled LibreOffice, removed the user data folder and install LibreOffice 7.1.1, but the same issue happens.
@ Fabio: have you tried in reinstall an older version? For my old system I was not able to use any 7.x version. But the latest 6.x worked fine for me.

Hello BDF, Fabio, Could you please try to reproduce it with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/ ? I have set the bug's status to 'NEEDINFO'. Please change it back to 'UNCONFIRMED' if the bug is still present in the latest version.
@ Xisco Faulí: I have tested the issue with LibreOffice 7.1.4.2 and it still crashes my system. At thie point I have no idea how I could help with the issue any longer. Is there a BSOD report I could provide? General Note: The crash only occurs on my Windows 7 Laptop that is +8 years old. Since I had to replace it and it's already waiting to be recycled, I will not be able to test new LO updates in the future. Since nobody else seems to have this problem and it seems to be something in between unfixable and not worth the effort (since I am the only one effected and I already have a new system) I'm fine if you want to close the issue.

OP was working on an unsupport Windows 7 SP1 build which has been taken out of service. User profile is very suspect, but seems it was never reset and allowed to rebuild from defaults. Safemode would not crash/bluescreen. A WinDbg stacktrace of an attached soffice.bin process might have been helpful in identifying the issue (possibly Skia rendering relateed). But with system gone this is not actionable.

Помогите! Ни с того, ни с сего завершается работа LibreOffice Writer! Иногда зависает и потом вылетает баг-репорт. Иногда — просто программа закрывается без какого либо предупреждения. Восстановление документа ничего не дает. И случается такое довольно часто! Обычно при форматировании текста или перемещении изображения внутри документа.
Очень обидно, когда несколько часов работы в … 
Какая причина этому? Может альтернативные программы посоветуете..

3.6.0 содержит много багов, и никогда не рекомендовалась для обычного использования.
Нормальные версии 3.5.7 и 3.6.2.
Поэтому я советую 3 варианта.
1. Установить 3.5.7 из ppa:libreoffice/libreoffice-3-5
2. Оставить 3.5.4. из репозитария 12.04, если используется эта версия Ubuntu.
3. Установить 3.6.2, скачав дебы с сайта libreoffice.org.

Скачал 3.6.3 и 3.5.7
При установке в Центре Приложений пишет «Невозможно удовлетворить зависимость libreoffice3.6», хотя я все удалил.

Какая версия Ubuntu?
3.5.7 не надо ниоткуда скачивать. Надо выполнить команды
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice/libreoffice-3-5
sudo apt-get install libreoffice
3.6.3 нужно распаковать все дебы в одну папку, включая пакет, который в отдельной папке был debian…
Затем зайти в эту папку и выполнить команду
sudo dpkg -i *.deb

Вылетает из сеанса при попытке изменить размер окна.
Вылетает если у вас 2 или более монитора и окно с приложением на весь экран. (WINDOW MAXIMIZE)
Решается обновлением версии. (на 4.11.2012 не в автоматизированном режиме)
