The Pangu.io jailbreak seemingly came out of nowhere, but we can confirm that it 100% works. We tested the jailbreak on our device running iOS 7.1.1 and it worked just as advertised, burning two exploits in the process.

Pangu will eventually come in two flavors—a Windows version and a Mac version—however, the Mac version is still in development. Inside, we’ll show you how to jailbreak iOS 7.1.x on your device using Pangu for Windows. 

The Pangu jailbreak should work with the following devices: iPhone 4, iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPod touch 5th gen, iPad 2, iPad 3, iPad 4, iPad Air, iPad mini, iPad mini with Retina Display.

Step 1: Download the latest version of Pangu from our downloads page

Step 2: Plug your iOS 7.1.x device in to your computer’s USB port

Step 3: Run Pangu_v1.0.exe on your Windows machine. If you see weird characters, it may be due to Windows not displaying the Chinese character-set correctly. Simply follow along in our video above to see what we mean.

Step 4: Make sure the checkbox is unchecked, and click the Start Jailbreak button.

Step 5: Pangu will ask you to go to Settings > General > Date & Time and disable the Set Automatically toggle. You will then need to set the date to June 2, 2014.

Step 6: The jailbreak process will start. Eventually you will see the Pangu app icon on the Home screen. Tap the Pangu icon to launch the Pangu app.

Step 7: Wait patiently, and the jailbreak will process. The video tutorial is sped up, the whole process takes about 10-15 minutes, so be patient.

Step 8: Once the jailbreak is completed, you should see a “enjoy your new jailbreak message”. Unlock your device, and you should see Cydia on the Home screen.

Congratulations. You now have an untethered jailbreak on iOS 7.1.x. Pangu should automatically set your date setting in Settings > General > Date & Time back to Set Automatically.

A Mac version should be out soon, and as soon as it is, we’ll post a Mac tutorial as well.

A jailbreak for iOS 7.1.1 has been released by a called Pangu. The untethered jailbreak tool supports just about any device capable of running iOS 7.1.1, including most new iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch models. The jailbreak is currently only available for Windows, with a Mac OS X version apparently in the works and due out soon.

While there are plenty of reasons not to jailbreak, most users who want to perform the modification to their iOS gear have a compelling reason to do so. Nonetheless, users should be aware that the Pangu jailbreak has some controversy surrounding it as jailbreaks often do, so if it’s something you’re interested in pursuing, then do proceed with adequate caution. Being unable to test this particular release, this is not something we recommend.

We’ll update with a proper Mac walkthrough when the version becomes available. In the meantime, jailbreaking a device running iOS 7.1 or iOS 7.1.1 with Pangu looks pretty easy as long as you have a Windows PC and don’t mind fishing around a bit with a user interface that isn’t completely optimized for a western audience (for the curious, the UI looks off because most US and EU users don’t have Chinese characters installed on their computers).

First, be sure you have a Pangu compatible device, that includes iPhone 5, iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPad Air, iPad Mini, IPad Mini Retina, iPad 3, iPad 4, and iPod touch 4th gen. You’ll also need to have iOS 7.1 or iOS 7.1.1 installed on the device:

• Back up your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch first, ideally both to iTunes and iCloud
• Download PanGu for Windows or visit the Pangu website

It looks easy enough if you don’t mind the kind of sketchy nature of this release, and the fact that it may be in a language you’re unfamiliar with.

Without a Windows PC or at least a Windows installation in VirtualBox or Booth Camp, most Mac users will be out of luck until an OS X version becomes available. We’ll be sure to update when a Macintosh update is out.

• If you are using windows PC to jailbreak your device Install the latest iTunes on your windows PC (latest iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows )
