Microsoft не так давно выпустила новое приложение для операционной системы Windows 10, которое помогает администраторам устранять ошибки Windows Search.
Если это не помогает, «is my file indexed», чтобы выяснить, индексируется ли определенный файл Windows Search, и «what is being indexed», который отображает список включённых и исключённых путей.
И последнее, но не менее важное, есть также «search roots», который предоставляет root-уровни, которые индексатор будет запускать, когда он ищет изменения или новые файлы.

Many users were disappointed when they saw that the January round of Patch Tuesday updates did not contain a fix for the File Search issues.
These issues were around for 3 months already, and they were preventing functionality of some very basic Windows features.
However, it seems that Microsoft has finally addressed this particular issue since it released an Indexer Diagnostics utility to help users troubleshoot and, in some cases, fix the issue.
How does the Indexer Diagnostics utility work?
While the existence of this utility is indeed good news, it is still in Beta testing. It works by detecting potential issues affecting the Search Indexer service.
It does so by making it possible to check if your files are indexed and what paths are indexed.
Regarding the file indexing process, Microsoft stated that:
Indexing is the process of looking at files, email messages, and other content on your PC and cataloging their information, such as the words and metadata in them[…]
When you search your PC after indexing, it looks at an index of terms to find results faster.
Additionally, it seems that advanced users such as system admins can also use the Indexer Diagnostics utility to track a device’s resource usage. It does this by collecting resource traces when the indexer uses too many resources from the app’s Performance tab.
The utility is available through the Microsoft App store and it is completely free. The decision to make it available this way stems from the desire to make the utility much more readily available.
Given how all you need to do to get a store app is downloaded and then launch it, this seemed like the perfect course of action.

Windows Search Indexer is a service in Windows 11/10, which makes sure to find a file or content inside it when you request it. But like any other service on Windows, it’s not without any issues. Sometimes it causes high CPU usage; sometimes, it just doesn’t work. Microsoft has rolled out the Indexer Diagnostics Tool, which can identify problems and issues with the Windows Search Indexer.
Indexer Diagnostics Tool from Microsoft
When you launch the diagnostic tool, be prepared to be impressed. It is not just another fix-it tool from Microsoft, but a well-done app! On the left, you have the following menu:
- Service Status
- Search is not working
- Is my file indexed
- What is being indexed?
- Performance
- Search Tools
It offers a lot of tools to check for problems that Windows Search faces often. When you are not able to find a file or the service is off, you can find a solution using this app.
1] Service Status
It is the dashboard where you get to know the number of indexed files, list of drives indexed, Outlook items, and Microsoft Edge History items. You can filter the usage by the last hour or day or week. You can also see search service status and the version.
2] Search is not working
If Windows Search is not working, this section guides you to fix them. It includes problems such as Search ist not working, Restarting didn’t help, Restarting didn’t work because of bug.
3] Is my file indexed
If one of your files does not appear in the search results, then you can check the status here. The diagnostic tool will help you identify the exact problem. For example, in the above image, the advanced attributes of the file have a problem. The rest of the checks are about the existence of the file, scope, pending URLs, query from indexer, and more were fine.
4] What is being indexed?
It lists down drives and folders, which are included for indexing and paths that are excluded. You can manually add folder paths to both of them.
5] Performance
Indexer Diagnostics tool displays the number of failed/successful queries in Windows. Along with it, you will see:
- Resource Tracing if search indexer is using too much of resource
- Functional tracing and Application logs collection which will help resolve the issue
- File Bug button enables you to submit input using the Feedback Hub
6] Search Roots
This is only for information and shows where the indexer will begin its search.
Indexing issues are widespread, and this tool should make it a lot easy for anyone to figure out problems and also resolve issues. It is available for download here in the Microsoft Store.
I hope the tool helps you resolve Windows Indexing issues.
