HP Smart Tank 515 is a suitable choice for users who need a multifunction printer capable of wireless printing and equipped with an ink tank unit large enough for printing thousands of times for every single refill.
Smart Tank is simply a marketing term used by HP to refer to the ink technology widely known as ink tank. Instead of relying on disposable ink cartridges, HP Smart Tank 515 uses a built-in ink reservoir that can be refilled.
Features and Highlights
The ink reservoir is integrated into the body of the printer. When the ink runs low, users can refill it with ink from a bottle. Due to the larger size of the reservoir, it can hold a higher volume of ink than a cartridge, so the refills would be less frequent. It means that users would have more time to finish their works simply by replacing their cartridge-based printers with HP Smart Tank 515.
Printing 200 to 800 pages every month is recommended by HP to keep HP Smart Tank 515’s performance at optimal condition for as long as possible. 1000 A4 or Letter pages is the duty cycle of the printer.
HP Smart Tank 515 is capable of printing pages at the speed of 22 A4 pages per minute for black printing and 16 pages per minute for color printing, both on draft mode. The first page out time is 14 seconds for black and white A4 pages, and 21 seconds for color A4 pages.
HP Smart Tank 515 supports mobile printing, copying, and scanning. By using the HP Smart app, or Apple AirPrint, or Google Cloud Print, users can perform any of the tasks from anywhere. The mobile printing features Smart Task which allows users to simplify repetitive tasks with shortcuts that can be customized.
Duplex printing is supported but it must be done by hand. Users can also print borderless pages but only up to 8.5 x 11 inches or 210 x 297 mm.
The scanner uses a glass plate on which the originals are scanned. The scan results can be saved as images in either JPEG, PNG, TIFF, or BMP file format, or as PDF documents. The fact that HP Smart Tank 515 doesn’t come with an ADF is unfortunate, but it is within expectation, considering the price.
100 sheets is the highest amount of papers the input tray can hold and 30 sheets is the maximum number of papers the output tray can receive at a time. Even if users need to print more, the limits should not be a huge issue.
