I have looked through all of the questions that appear to be related on stack overflow, and none of the solutions seem to help me.
I am building a Qt application with this setup:
- Windows 7 Professional x64
- Visual Studio 2012
- Qt 5.2.0 built with
configure -developer-build -debug-and-release -opensource -nomake examples -nomake tests -platform win32-msvc2012 -no-opengl
- Project uses QtSingleApplication (qt-solutions)
- Application is a 32 bit application
- qmake run with the following: -makefile -spec win32-msvc2012
- .pri uses
QMAKE_CXX += /D_USING_V110_SDK71_
I can build and run my program fine on my development machine (noted above); I can also install and run the package from Program Files directory on dev machine.
When I install and run on a Windows Vista machine (multiple machines)
- VC++ redist 2012 11.0.61030.0 installed
- VC++ redist 2010 10.0.40219 installed
- plus 2005, 2008 versions of redist
(also fails on a clean install of Windows 7)
I get:
Application failed to start because it could not find or load the QT platform plugin "windows"
So I followed the instructions and added a .platforms/ directory, and added qwindows.dll (also added qminimal.dll and qoffscreen.dll); I also added libEGL.dll, libGLESv2.dll (even though I shouldn’t need them I don’t think)
Once I added qoffscreen.dll I now get the additional message: Available platform plugins are: offscreen
If I run through Dependency Walker I get this error listed:
GetProcAddress(0x76CA0000 [KERNEL32.DLL], "GetCurrentPackageId") called from "MSVCR110.DLL" at address 0x6AC6FDFA and returned NULL. Error: The specified procedure could not be found (127).
and then further down get the:
GetProcAddress(0x745A0000 [UXTHEME.DLL], "BufferedPaintUnInit") called from "COMCTL32.DLL" at address 0x745FFBF8 and returned 0x745AE18C.
This application failed to start because it could not find or load the Qt platform plugin "windows".
Available platform plugins are: offscreen.
Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.
Any ideas how to fix this dll issue?
@HZMD said in «could not find or load the Qt platform plugin «windows» in «»,:
Do all of them use Qt? — I’m not sure, and I’m not sure how to find out.
In general, you check for the presence of Qt DLLs (Qt5Core.dll, qwindows.dll) in the program’s folders.
How did I install Krita? — It would be non-helpful if I said «in the normal way» wouldn’t it? I’m definitely not a proper programmer, though I’m «programmer adjacent» in some aspects of my work, learning enough from programmers to describe it to non-programmers in pictures. Anyway, I downloaded an executable installer from Krita.org and let it do its thing. Is that the right information?
Yes, that’s the right information Other possible ways to install Krita include «compile it from source».
Anyway, since you used the «normal way», that rules out the possibility of the error being caused by incorrect installation/compilation/deployment
Does uninstalling and reinstalling help? — On the others I have encountered this problem with, it has. I haven’t done Krita yet, because I was hoping to find the original culprit, and thought there might be clues.
From the symptoms you’ve described and the ListDLLs output you posted, I can’t see an easy way to find the root culprit, unfortunately.
The easiest thing to do might be to reinstall the affected software and move on with your life.
One other thing you could try: If you create a new user account on your PC, does that account manage to run the affected programs normally? If it does, that means something has gone wrong in your current Windows account itself. (I can’t explain how though)
qwindows.dll is missing — Hey, I think Krita uses Qt! I found qwindows.dll in C:\Program Piles\Krita (x64)\bin\platforms
Using that newfound knowledge, I looked for it in…
…I’ll come back and edit this with any others it finds, or that it finds in Program Files (x86)
That’s OK, you don’t have to give us a comprehensive list.
I asked about other Qt-based software because sometimes, problems occur when a piece of Qt-based software adds itself to the system-wide PATH (or QT_PLUGIN_PATH). This can cause other Qt-based software to load the wrong version of Qt DLLs.
However, given that you can repair individual programs by re-installing them, that probably means your problem is caused by something else.
I did not find qwindows in the folder of the pen display driver / control software I suspected of having monkeyed things up. Am I right in thinking that means that driver / control software is innocent? With no more evidence than I had before, I now suspect Logitech. I’m sure this is how witch trials get started.
It is difficult to prove that someone/thing didn’t do it.

No, no. You want to fully UNinstall QuickTime. Remove it from the computer completely. Get rid of it. Drop it. Take it off. Throw it out.

What specific version of PP are you using? What OS and version? Is this a dedicated editing machine or a general purpose machine?

This is not a commonly reported error, so I can only think that there’s something wrong on your system.
The only idea I have left at this point is to rebuild the system, wipe the C: drive and reinstall Windows from scratch. After that, make sure to install only the programs you need for system maintenance and editing. Don’t install any anti-virus, office, email or games on the machine.
Someone else might have a simpler suggestion, but…that’s all I can think of on this one.

So I’m not sure why this worked, but I set my Windows machine back 7 days to the last update, uninstalled then reinstalled Premiere (also deleted preferences), and that seemed to do the trick.
To set Windows back, right-click on the start button —>System —>System Protection —>System Restore. Then select a Restore Point.
Saved me having to do a total Windows reinstall.

wipe the C: drive and reinstall Windows from scratch
Starting from scratch can take days with regards to all those settings and OS updates, etc. It’s a good practice to make an image of your system for recovery. I generally keep two images, one of the base install with windows and all drivers working, and a second with the applications installed and working. These I keep on separate, external USB drives. Should I encounter an update with undesirable results, it’s a 45 minute process to get back to square one.
You can also use system restore to apply the image (vs using a restore point) with the added feature of keeping documents/settings intact. It takes a little longer, but works wonders.

Took me four hours to go from formatting the C: drive to finished installing the full Adobe video quite when I used a thumb drive for the OS rather than a DVD.

Simon. I’m talking about all the other applications, drivers, settings, etc. Not just the base install of the OS, even so, using an image file still beats yours by 3 hours. I also have several different PC’s, each with their own characteristics. But, each to their own.

Avoiding QT in this business is unavoidable, fortunately you can install just the essentials via the custom button, (the core parts that are used by the application to function, minus the parts that are no longer secure — see image below). This is the current recommendation from both Avid and Sorenson, whom require these components to function:
If you work DSLR originated files in .mov format, then it will make life easier. With essentials, I can trans code .mov sources to my mezzanine codec within AME.

Hi all, I got the same issue. It started just after I upgraded from W7 to W10
Have been looking for any solution without success. All Adobe programs works but Premiere Pro CC 2015 (and 2015.3)
Have lots of work to accomplish and am stuck with this. Uninstalled both PPs installed again and still nothing. The problem occours still and still. That means it is not Adobe fault but Microsoft after moving to W10.
Unfortunatelly after I checked all other programs working, deleted Old.Windows folder so no way back anymore.
Is there anyone, who had passed with this s…t?

Hi Joe Bodego,
Is this with Mettle Skybox, or some other Mettle plug-in? Is it a plug-in you only use in After Effects or do you use it in Premiere Pro, as well?
Thanks,
Kevin

Появилась проблема с запуском проекта, который был собран с Qt5 под Windows. При запуске приложения появляется ошибка:
This application failed to start because it could not find or load the Qt platform plugin «windows». Available platform plugins are: windows. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.
Что делать, как решить?
Решение проблемы с программой (приложением)
Все, что нужно сделать, чтобы исправить ошибку, вызывающую надпись «This application failed to start because it could not find or load the Qt platform plugin „windows“. Available platform plugins are: windows. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.», нужно:
Добавить в проект каталог «platforms» и скопировать туда файл qwindows.dll и все будет работать исправно.
I found the solution here on the qt forums.
My problem originated with setting the environment variables to get anaconda working.
QT_PLUGIN_PATH=c:\Anaconda3\Library\plugins\
But by setting this it breaks everything else. So for now I’ve just gotten rid of the path variable.
To check if you have the env variable set
1. Press <windows key> + R
2. Type «Control Panel»
3. Open system
4. Open advanced system settings on the left
5. Click on the environment variables button at the bottom
6. Browse through the user and system lists to see if QT_PLUGIN_PATH has been set.
