I’ve been working from home a lot recently, so I make sure to monitor my home network the way I would with my office network, ensure nothing is hogging the bandwidth, and stay aware of any suspicious activity.
One day my internet was acting up when I had an important report to send, and naturally, this bugged me, so I took a look at my home network to find out what the issue was.
I figured I’d just left a smart device or one of my gaming consoles on, and it was downloading an update or something.
However, I noticed that there was a device on my network that identified itself as an Arcadyan network.
I wondered what the device was and did my research to determine if it was something I should be worried about, and then compiled what I learned into this comprehensive article.
The Arcadyan device on your network is most likely a DVD player or an LG Smart TV.Arcadyan Technology Corp develops wireless solutions for such electronic appliances.
I’ve gone more into detail in this article about whether Arcadyan devices are dangerous, how you can keep track of these devices and manage a suspicious device on your network.
An Arcadyan device is just a Wi-Fi card on certain electronic appliances that allows them to connect to the internet.
They are usually configured to identify themselves as the overall electronic appliance.
However, if your devices have not been set up properly, or if you’ve factory reset your smart home accessories, they might later identify themselves using their original component name, “Arcadyan” and then a model number.
It is also important to know that, if you don’t own a smart appliance that has an Arcadyan Wi-Fi chip on board, it doesn’t make sense for one to appear on your network.
Why do I see an Arcadyan Device Connected to my network?
If you’ve got a smart home device that has an Arcadyan Device that needs to be constantly connected to the internet, you’ll find that it appears on your home network all the time.
It’s also possible that a smart home routine has automatically turned on one of these devices.
Is an Arcadyan Device Dangerous?
Arcadyan devices on their own are not inherently dangerous. They just allow smart home appliances to connect to the internet to perform their intended function.
However, if you’re trying to do something online, that’s pretty bandwidth-intensive, like say, streaming movies on Netflix, and Netflix does consume a lot of data to download or say you’re uploading a large file, then naturally you want as few devices as possible on your network hogging all the bandwidth.
A problem also arises if you don’t own any devices that identify themselves as Arcadyan devices. This means there’s a suspicious device on your network, and that’s a different matter entirely.
They are just devices in your home that make use of products from Arcadyan. However, like all the other devices connected to the internet, they are also prone to attacks from hackers.
Something of the sort happened last year. Arcadyan Firmware was exploited by hackers among many other devices during April last year. The news was made public in August.
Nevertheless, that issue has been tackled ever since and the vulnerability has been rectified.
What Company is Behind these Devices?
Arcadyan Technology Corp is a Taiwanese firm that specializes in the research, development, manufacturing, and selling of wireless LAN equipment and broadband wireless gateways.
Wireless LAN products, integrated digital home, and mobile office multimedia gateways, and wireless audio and video equipment are the company’s core offerings.
The company sells its products both domestically and internationally.
What are Common Devices that Identify as Arcadyan?
The majority of Arcadyan devices are DVD players or LG Smart TVs.
Aside from that, many other companies use Arcadyan’s integration technologies in their products.

That way you will be able to keep track of all the connected devices.
However, if a device stays connected even after everything is disconnected, then an unwanted or malicious device is connected to your network.
Using WNW to Check Devices on Your Network
There are numerous ways to detect devices on your home network on Windows. However, NirSoft’s Wireless Network Watcher (WNW) is one of the most effective solutions.
The software searches the network you’re on and displays a list of devices along with their MAC and IP addresses.
Although the list can be seen in WNW, it can also be exported to HTML, XML, CSV, or TXT.
While this sounds comparable to checking on your router, there are some advantages to using WNW.
This check can be performed without logging into the router, and the list can be automatically refreshed.
You can also set up alerts when a certain device is added to or withdrawn from your network.
The software keeps track of all machines on the network and how many times they’ve connected.
The program can be installed on your computer or run as a portable app without needing to be installed.
You can copy the WNW ZIP edition to a USB flash drive and carry it with you to use on any computer by downloading it.
Fing for Network Device Checking
Consider using Fing to make the process easier across numerous, cross-platform devices.
This desktop and mobile program, similar to WNW, allows you to keep track of devices connected to your network and manage them across numerous networks on macOS, Windows, Android, and iOS devices.
Run the Network Discovery function when it’s been installed, and you’ll be given a full list of all the devices linked to your current network.
The IP and MAC addresses, as well as a user-configurable name, are returned.
Fing can be used without an account locally on your device. However, joining up allows you to access stored networks on any device that has Fing installed.
